2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Boston?

I'm excited for the game, but worried about our energy level in a game that means a whole lot to Ferris, and not much to us. It looks like we're locked into a #1 seed, likely at South Bend, and are playing for a trophy that almost all our players already won last year. I'm looking for some help here - Convince me I'm wrong!

If you don't care, we'll take the title. Would be nice to lock up 2 #1 seeds for the WCHA, right guys?

You didn't really convince me I'm wrong! You're not helping!

But best of luck this week. I'm hoping for a Saturday night game with Tech that matches the excitement level we had in Mankato last month.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Mavericks. That's a team that looks like a cold blooded killer. Any team that beats them now is going to have to play their best game of the season, and hope MSU is a little off...and I'm not so sure you're going to see that happen.

That being said, if you end up with ECAC or Hockey East officials in a game...

They're hockey players and don't want to lose game, particularly against a team that they've played heated games with the last two years..not to mention that the coaching staff is fantastic and will be preaching all week the importance of this weekend. Not to mention, if this team, as good as it has been and looked all year, can't get up and play for a WCHA Playoff Championship, will they be able to win their regional? I could possibly see a bit of a slow start, but I expect the Mavericks to be firing on all cylinders.

Now that we're at this point of the season, I'd like to revisit everyone's expectations..

From here on out, what is considered success? What do you expect the Mavericks to do in the next few weeks?

OK, now I feel better! And as for expectations, I admit that as of today, with our team healthy, I would be disappointed with anything less than a trip to Boston.

Will the X staff rob us of cowbells?

I think I'm in the same boat..A trip to Boston is deemed success, anything after is gravy..The only reason I'm not National Championship or bust is because the Mavericks are 0-3 all time in NCAA Tournament play..If there was experience winning in the tournament, I'd expect a National Championship game appearance, and quite possibly a title. However, it is indeed hockey, where crazy things happen in the playoffs, so it's tough to have that National Championship or fail expectation.

Id love to say Boston is my expectation and anything less would be disappointing but I'm going to wait and see who we get. We could end up with a though matchup in rd 1. I think a NCAA win is important for us to legitimize the season as a whole.

So I'll say at least a win. Plus I'm driving to south bend. Long way to go to see 1 game

If the Mavericks can't beat the a bottom two seed in the field, they've been putting on quite an act all year.

Some of the Bottom seeds could be SCSU, providence, even UofM. Can we beat them? Obviously but they aren't chumps. It's a tough tourney and you have to be ready to play your best 4 games of hockey.

As fun as this season has been, anything less than a trip to Bastan would be a bummer.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

Anything is possible in a one-and-done. That being said I think an NCAA tourney win will stop me from pulling all my hair out. Last year was a great game against a very good team. It was fun to watch. One thing that will make me kick the TV would be if the opposing team gets loose on the wing and wrists one over Williams' shoulder. I think teams will be seeing that on tape from the last few weeks. If we can toe the line of scoring 3 and allowing 2.... well it is that simple isn't it?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

Based on past years, have there been more Maverick fans at Xcel for the North Star College Cup or WCHA Final Five?
Just trying to get a guess at how many Maverick fans will be there.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

As good as Mankato is this year, I dont see them as the favorite of getting out of their regional against an NCHC opponent or a high level HE opponent despite the fact that they'll be a #1 seed. Somebody want to convince me this team should be favored over a team like Miami, Omaha, Duluth, or Denver in a potential second round matchup?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

If they are on there game we can beat any team out there and you have already split with Omaha and duluth this year
