2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Boston?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

You're right. The NACHO is the oWCHA. They will get an all NACHO frozen four. No one else should bother.
I think any 1 or 2 seed has a great chance this year. Some threes as well. One team (see Yale or Bemidji) just needs to get hot and make a run. Why do you want to be convinced that MSU can beat Denver?

As good as Mankato is this year, I dont see them as the favorite of getting out of their regional against an NCHC opponent or a high level HE opponent despite the fact that they'll be a #1 seed. Somebody want to convince me this team should be favored over a team like Miami, Omaha, Duluth, or Denver in a potential second round matchup?

Its humerous to me that we still base teams quality on what their conference affiliation is. The NCAA from the past 3-4 years I would have thought put that to rest. I have watched Duluth play a few games and they can bring it, but Ive seen them, Denver and UNO all drop eggs too. NCHC has some good teams but their top teams arent any better then most conferences top teams. But if you really want a reason is that beacuse those teams and the majority of college hockey fans will underestimate the Techs, MSUs, and even teams like Robert Morris. I'll gladly take the underdog role, actually I HOPE everyone bashes us up to game time, calls our record infilated due to playing in the WCHA. Just like people did to Yale, and Union..

Amen. Here's to another Tech-MSU rematch for the championship!

I wouldn't say that. But there is a ton of parity this year. You often have the feeling going into the NCAAs that this team or that seems somewhat hard to beat. But not this year...

I think of the way Wisconsin played through the 2013 final five. Many thought they would be very tough in the NCAAs. Lowell put an abrupt stop to that thinking with a 7-1 drubbing in round one.

I took a look at how teams are currently playing. Momentum seems to be a big part in this game sometimes. Here's the last 10 games for each team. I apologize if I made any miscalculations.

MSUM 6-2-2
Denver 6-3-1
Miami 6-4
UMD 3-5-2
UNO 2-5-3

I would have to say I would like our chances.....

Apparently Matt Leitner or Bryce Gervais aren't one of the top 10 players in the country.
ECAC players? Really?

I have certainly enjoyed watching them, and they deserve any awards that come their way. They're in my Top 10. The problem is, who do you leave out to get them in? I've seen Kero, Reilly, and McIntyre, and they deserve it, too. Look at Eichel and Chiampini's numbers, as well as Vesey, etc. The Hobey Baker is like Miss America - she's great and all, but that doesn't mean my girlfriend isn't smoking hot

Best of luck taking care of business across town this weekend. You've had a great season, no reason to pump the brakes now. Might even head over Saturday night to cheer you on if things don't break right for SCSU.

Hope to see you in the big tourney. Just not in the first round.

Good luck to you, too. It's up to both of us this weekend to defend the State of Hockey against vile invaders

The 4 NCHC team's records you cite were mostly played against teams currently in the top 9 of Pairwise.

8 of Denver's 10.
6 of Miami's 10.
8 of UMD's 10.
6 of UNO's 10.

That's 28 out of 40 games against those teams. ALL of which are going to the NCAA tournament.

As opposed to 2 games played by Mankato against such teams in the last 10? (pre-the date of your post)

The WCHA was 30-29-9 out of conference this season.

The NCHC? A by far the best in college hockey 53-25-4.

I think I like our chances even better.

Well considering the selection committee does the exact same thing with regards to the pairwise rankings, it doesn't surprise me at all.
