2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

This is the issue. I get that people like to have talking points during the last half of the season, but perhaps a better approach would be to have the committee simply have a group of teams "in the mix" or "contenders" and not have numerical rankings (that is what the polls are for anyway). That might start out at 15-20 teams midway through the season, but it would have dwindled down to 6-8 by the final selection show. It would give the committee some wiggle room to avoid what looks like an absurd result (TCU dropping 3 spots after crushing Iowa State), yet it would still give the talking heads plenty to debate about during the season.

Considering how much E$PN played on the whole playoff thing, that would never work. How else are they going to fill 30 min a DAY plus 3 hours on Saturday talking college football- it's not as if they can actually report on teams and conferences outside of the top 25 and Power 5. So they have to talk about polls that don't mean anything.

Otherwise the UM-Notre Dame game would have been as meanless then as it ended up turning out to be now. (argh)

Personally, I don't think FSU should have gotten in. And that's based entirely on the Massey composite.

Gophers vs. a team that last played in the SEC Championship game, in a Jan. 1st bowl game. Ruh roh, raggy.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Useless stat of the day but very interesting:

Big 10 has 10 of 14 teams going to a bowl game and all 10 are underdogs.

Big 12 has 7 of 10 teams going and 5 of 7 are favored.

SEC has 12 of 14 teams going and 9 are favored.

This...

I'd like to think Minnesota is better than Indiana.
... coupled with the fact that Missouri would be a middle of the pack team in the SEC West, at best.

Plus, it's helpful that the Tigers will have the "vacation distraction" to deal with, just like the Gophers. So often during bowl season B1G teams wind up playing sunbelt teams in their own backyards. For the "home" team it's all about football; they've got greater crowd support; and they're playing with a comfort level that the tourist team is unlikely to match. MN vs. MO? Two tourist teams. Orlando strikes me as a legitimately neutral site for this one. Sure the Gophers will be underdogs, but at least they won't be battling against a significant home field advantage.

Do like the Scooby reference, btw.;)

Pac12 has 8 of 12 teams and is favored in 7 of 8.

I found out at the Tampa frozen four (we stayed closer to Orlando than Tampa) that there are a lot of Minnesota alumni in the area.

If the Bowls still worked the way they did when I was growing up:

Rose Bowl 4:30 NBC
Ohio State (12-1) vs Oregon (12-1)

Orange Bowl 8:00 NBC
Florida State (13-0) vs Baylor (12-1)

Sugar Bowl 8:30 ABC
Alabama (12-1) vs TCU (12-1)

Good luck determining a national champion from that...Also, which game are you watching in prime time?
