2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

suppose that doesn't really matter as even if baylor was officially named champ, appears committee still likes tcu...who knows

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

looking at the current top 8, 8 would be too many this year. 6 on the other hand? perfect. top 2 get a bye.

give bama and oregon top slots

have tcu and baylor settle it on neutral field and fsu-osu (obviously not ideal now with osu on third qb)

If you are going to go more than 4, you have to include each conference champion. Given that, if you only go with 6, that means you are taking the 5 conference champions and the best non-champion. Most seasons there would be way too much debate over who the best non-champion would be. You don't implement a playoff system year by year, so just because 6 may be appropriate for this season, 8 would be best for most seasons.

As for the Big 12, the coaches voted prior to the season to have co-champions in case of a tie. My guess is that Baylor's coach might seriously regret his vote on that in about 24 hours.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Oh, I'm not expecting it at all. We had two chances to prove ourselves and instead decided to play the worst defense since the program has seen since about 2009 in the 4th quarter of Oregon and 2nd half of OSU.

Yeah, I thought for sure that Michigan State would beat Ohio State.

I was really rooting for the Big Ten too...I like to see underdogs upset college football's norm. Maybe the Criminoles will get beat and Ohio State will have the chance to win the conference's second outright national championship in the last 40+ years.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

maybe i am overestimating the intelligence of the committee but it seems like even if baylor was declared sole champs rather than co champs, tcu would still be ranked ahead of them. at least i hope that's the case because there really isn't a difference in either case when you don't have a conference title game. i may disagree with them that tcu should be above baylor but based on the hypothetical, i would hope their logic remained the same.

agree that # of teams with a case can fluctuate year to year. but if this thing expands i'd rather it go to 6 first.

I really don't like 6. I'd rather have 4 than 6. Normally byes are a good thing, but when these teams are already going to be on about a month long break, the teams playing in the play-ins (or Quarters whatever they would call them) would have a distinct advantage. Either 4 or 8 please.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Just give it a few years of 4, and people will realize an extra week isn't the end of the world, and then they'll be cool with 8 teams. It won't happen immediately, but the current evolution has been going for 20 years so what's another decade.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Badgers should be embarrassed.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

good point about being at a disadvantage due to rust but at same time the teams with byes would be healthier/well rested.

who am i kidding though, 8 would generate more money.

is ohio state in the conversation now? i've heard people say it could happen that they jump baylor and tcu but if the committee had tcu third i just don't know how that can hapoen.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

with this guy goldman out, this could actually be the time fsu goes down ;)

Well, Ohio State is ahead of Baylor, so they wouldn't have to worry about that. I don't see how they could jump TCU...especially considering that the committee apparently thinks TCU is ahead of Crim U. Well, TCU shellacked Iowa State today, and the Criminoles are in another patented close game. Of course, Georgia Tech is 10x the team that Iowa State is.

So, TCU vs. Ohio State?

TCU's Credentials:
Big 12 Co-Champion
Quality wins over Minnesota, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kansas State, and Texas
Only loss to Baylor
Beat only common opponent (Minnesota) by 23, while Ohio State only won by 7 (but, TCU played Minnesota at home, and Ohio State played them in Minnesota)

Ohio State's Credentials:
Big Ten Champion
Quality wins over Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin
Only loss to Virginia Tech
They are on their third string QB, but that does not appear to be an issue

It's a very close call. I think TCU has an ever so slightly stronger resume, and I think they should get the #4 (#3?) spot.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

It would be kind of funny if OSU only winning by one possession against Minnesota kept them out of the playoff because of Jerry Kill's dip-**** decision to kick a field goal on first down when they were losing by 10.

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

If they had instead gone for and earned a TD the score would have been even closer.
-The committee

And btw still one possession away so f##k off
-Jerry Kill

what a dud of a weekend. suspense in only one of these games.

to me, top 3 should be:

1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. Florida State

ultimately i think #4 should be between TCU and Baylor. One has a better loss but that loss came to the other obviously. without having a conference title game i also think it's fair for TCU to point out that the game was in Waco.

The Criminoles should be #4. They have been entirely unimpressive all season, and the only reason Crim U should be in the conversation at all is that they are undefeated in a Power 5 conference. Personally, I think Criminal U is about the 10th best team in the country. The Criminoles are good, but not elite. That being said, tonight might be the most complete game that CU has played all season.

tOSU football is outscoring the WI basketball team.

Bo Ryan must have been apoplectic over giving up 80 (gasp) points in a game. Badger special today on the hardwood. 49-38. as if basketball wasn't boring enough.
