2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

The better team did win today. And with JT out....WI has the inside track on the title.

MN failed on the clutch/crucial plays today. That was about the only difference, IMO. Needed a stop? Didn't get it. Needed a big O play? Didn't get it. Those little things were the difference.

That and our offensive line finally delivering whenever Clement was in the backfield.

rivalry game. louisville WON the game, it's not all about style points. from what i've seen, louisville is a very good team.

To each their own, and it really just comes down to our definitions of what is a "good team" (although you are certainly stretching by calling Louisville a "very good team").

I honestly don't see all that many "good teams" this season. Outside the top 15 or so, you have a bunch of decent teams that are equally deserving of being ranked 20th as they are 35th. If you are going to say that Louisville is a good team, then you have to call teams like Notre Dame, Utah, Boise State, Southern Cal, and West Virginia good teams. I'm simply not willing to call any of those teams "good teams." They are decent, but if you start calling middle of the pack power 5 schools "good teams" it lessens what a "good team" actually is.

To put it into college hockey terms, it would be like calling Boston College at this point of the season a "good team." They have the potential to be there at the end of the year, but at the moment, they are simply a decent team.

i can understand this. too many defensive debacles in big games for a guy who was known as a defensive guy.

The Nebraska punter isn't too thrilled with the firing. Took to twitter this morning and defended Pelini. Will be interesting to see how much they have to overpay for the next coach because there is zero job security in Lincoln if they're going to fire a coach with that record.

The cognoscenti have anointed Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost the next coach.

UAB is dropping their football program. First FBS team to fold in almost 20 years (Pacific).

From the sounds of it, this comes more from the Alabama Board of Trustees than it does the UAB athletic department. Case in point, UAB's athletic director is going to be fired and there's this from Deadspin.

"Gene Bartow, out of his mouth, told me on many, many occasions that the aim of the board of trustees was to kill UAB football in the last 8-10 years," said Jimmy Filler, UAB's biggest booster and the creator of the UAB Football Foundation. "They're going to get the recommendation from [UAB President Ray Watts], and they'll accept what he brings to them."

Alabama state Rep. Jack Williams, a longtime supporter of UAB, said the board has always been opposed to UAB football.

"It's been a thorn in their flesh since day one," Williams said. "I think they've done everything to kill it. I'll be honest: I think the program's success this year may be what leads to its demise if the board goes through with this because people are excited."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this very similar to what happened to Huntsville a few years ago with hockey? Interim president appointed by BoT comes in and drops it immediately before the new full-time guy reinstated it?

That's awful; now who are SEC teams going to play in early November?

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Body found on Ohio State campus is that of the missing OSU DL.

I wonder if this will become a trend in other states, where the big state schools try to get rid of "inferior" teams because they don't matter. I could see this happening here in Ohio where the Useless Nuts claim that they're THE team of Ohio, and every Ohioan should be a Bucknut regardless of their alma mater. However, O$U doesn't control any of the other FBS schools, so it would be significantly harder than Alabama main-campus shutting down Alabama satellite-campus.

Apparently Arkansas has been blocking Little Rock from starting a team for years now.

I mentioned this as "yet another reason to hate the Crimson Tide" to my college friends, and one of them (who, full disclosure, is married to an Auburn girl) replied with this tidbit:

Apparently they were also chanting "Lutzie is dead" ( former Auburn TE Lutzenkirchen who died a few months ago) last night. They're all class.

Some murmurings in Massachusetts a few years back (talk of eliminating the team at UMass-Lowell in the [IMO mistaken] belief that would help UMass Amherst, the flagship campus), but UMass-Lowell has some good political connections and the suggestion died.
