2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

Stoudt had a bad game, but Clemson will likely be favored in each of their remaining games (home against Georgia St., and home against USC). They won't make the Orange Bowl though.

Now hopefully the Criminal U. Criminoles get pounded by Miami tonight. Talk about a program that not even the alumni should be proud of. The SEC might cheat, but FSU allows rapists, thieves, and batterers play. What a joke.

How soon people forget about Miami's history of criminality.

fsu, bama and miss state would be in my top 4, just don't know who should be the 4th

Miami has its own issues but I don't think they currently have any known rapists, thieves, and batterers on the team...huge difference. There is a reason they call this FSU squad the Criminoles.

An interesting thought though, who have the Criminoles beat that they deserve to be in the top 4?

might not have a great win but nd, clemson without winston, louisville, miami...all good wins. two on the road. probably an even better resume this year over last but without the style points.

I would classify those games as simply "wins." They didn't control any of those games, and there is a very good chance that none of those teams are in the top 25 come December 7.

Now, I don't see any way that an undefeated Criminole squad gets left out of the playoff, but if the committee really is placing importance on who you beat (more than who you lose to) and game control I think there is a compelling argument to keep the Criminoles out.

As for last year FSU destroyed everyone they played, including a top 10 Clemson squad in Death Valley. Crim U's resume last season was significantly more impressive than this season.

If undefeated was enough than Marshall would have been in the top 4 all this time.

I don't think anyone is saying all any program needs to do is go undefeated and they make the playoffs. The Criminoles get in because: 1) they are undefeated from a power 5 conference, and 2) they are the defending national champions. I am fine with them getting in based on (1), but (2) should have no bearing whatsoever on who gets in this year's playoff.

My point is that based on what the committee seems to find important, there is a strong argument that Criminal U may not be a top 4 team. Alabama, Oregon, TCU, Mississippi State, and Baylor all have far more impressive wins. FSU's strength of schedule lags woefully behind each of those programs, and they don't really have any big tests going forward to boost their SOS. Moreover, CU hasn't been overly impressive in any of their quality wins.

Again, I'm not saying that the Criminoles should be left out of the playoff, but I do think they should be the 4 seed, and I agree that there is a strong argument for keeping them out all together.

I wouldn't classify ND as a good win. ND's record is padded with mediocrity. Their only win against a bowl eligible team so far is Rice.

Like I said, they've done it without the style points of last year. So, yes, that's a consideration. And that's why they aren't ranked #1 still. They are even behind a one loss team. In terms of competition, the ACC is pretty similar to last year. The difference is FSU isn't killing everybody. That's not enough for me to leave them out. Go back and look at FSU's schedule from last year. They had one great win, at Clemson. This time around, their non-conference slate was tougher by adding a program like Oklahoma State and obviously Florida. Not much they can do about those programs being mediocre this year. They don't have a win like at Clemson last year, but beating Clemson without Winston, winning at Louisville...those are good wins. You can debate the ND win now...just don't see enough to leave FSU out.

i should add, a clemson team that had watson at QB not stoudt...that's a huge difference

Re: 2014-15 College Football Part II: SEC vs World

The kinda funny thing with FSU, which I've discussed with some friends who are big FSU fans, is that they are almost screwing around for the first half, sometimes even 3 quarters of their games. Staying relatively close, but not really playing well. Then they seem to flip a switch and, thus far, have thrived under pressure situations with coming from behind and finding ways to win. If they could piece together a full 60 minute game, week in and week out, the results would probably be similar to last year's dominate performances.

How many more lives they have left is anybody's guess. However, IMO their ability to climb out of the gravedigger's hole is something of an accomplishment.
