2013 NCAA Quarterfinal: North Dakota @ Minnesota

Re: 2013 NCAA Quarterfinal: North Dakota @ Minnesota

The good news is that we can dispense with all of the questions like, "What can you tell us about your team? Who are the players we should be watching?"

6th time the charm?! Not much else to add here about the matchup except the winner is likely NCAA Champs :D

We've got most of a week to fill; we can come up with something like, "This will be the first postseason meeting between the two programs in seven days."

Re: 2013 NCAA Quarterfinal: North Dakota @ Minnesota

Unbelievably stupid. Is the NCAA for real? Why should UND get another crack at Minnesota? The idiots that be could have easily avoided an inter conference match up.

Re: 2013 NCAA Quarterfinal: North Dakota @ Minnesota

What did Brooks say: If we play 'em 10 times, they might win nine.........I guess the NCAA is doing its best to test it out literally......

Did he ever say which one of the ten it was ? :D

Re: 2013 NCAA Quarterfinal: North Dakota @ Minnesota

Everybody could see this coming... it was either going to be Gophers-UND or Gophers-Badgers, because not only did it avoid a plane flight but it maintained bracket integrity -- the latter being the reason I'm not going to complain about it.

Re: 2013 NCAA Quarterfinal: North Dakota @ Minnesota

It doesn't matter that much who you have to play, all that matters is that to achieve their goals this team has to win three more games. The way it has worked out the next one is against North Dakota.

Well, there's still plenty of reason to complain. What you're saying is that you can't blame individual committee members for how they implemented the criteria that was determined before the season began. What you can complain about is the criteria.

The only way to be sure of avoiding these intra-WCHA matchups is to have all the WCHA teams in the top 4, but that only happens if you have parity among those teams. If the second-place WCHA team is really fourth, but still far inferior to the No. 1 team, the current system is simply not going to pick that up... or it least it does in the common opponents & H2H criteria (UND was better than BC & BU & Harvard but even with Cornell & Clarkson, worse than Mercyhurst because of the MSU loss) but not the others.

If we had a good system, it'd still be borderlne whether UND deserved to host though.

As many suggested late last week, it would be the winner of the Wisco - UND semi, and that is exactly what happened. The only way it would have been different, is if SLU or NE would have won their league, in which case one of those teams would have gone to Ridder, and the WCHA would have only had one entry in the tourney.

Re: 2013 NCAA Quarterfinal: North Dakota @ Minnesota

I have to say that I'm not really sure what all of the complaining is about because it appears pretty straightforward to me....

- First, North Dakota should be thankful to be in the tournament - Wisconsin and Northeastern both finished ahead of them in PWR but the committee went a (VERY) little off the board to put them in because they accounted for their performance in the tournament and wanted a second Western team (which was reasonable). But Wisconsin (and to a much lesser extent Northeastern) fans should be more upset - I mean, Wisconsin beat them 3 out of 5 games this season ....

- Second, the criteria (love em or not) are relatively clear and ND finished 8th of the 8 teams picked for the tourney and it works out for everyone money wise because 2 teams don't have to fly to maintain the bracket integrity. As I was always told playing and coaching, if you don't want your hands in the fate of someone else, just win. They played very erratically most of the season and put just enough together at the bitter end to get into the tourney. They didn't win consistently enough during the season to justify a higher placement - simple as that.

OK - go ahead - tell me how stupid I am...
