The storm heading to Merion was nasty when it rolled through Hockey Valley earlier this morning. Lots of downed trees, minor flooding and power outages. Keep your heads up if you're going to be there today. :eek:

Im guessing we are looking at another 45 minutes or so at least before they let them back out based only on what I see on the radar. The rain should end but it's hard to say how long lightning may be an issue.

I'm sitting in shuttle lot, trying to decide if I go or not. Obviously want to and can stay in tent, but seems like a huge hassle if they are going to call it off or play intermittently

I guess the chance of rain drops down at midday but starts going back up again after that. It looks like its clear behind the current line. Nearest stuff is south and out west in central Ohio. Don't know if more stuff is expected to pop up between there. If this is the only day you can go I would try and wait it out. I think they will start again and play quite a while.

Weather Underground's radar out of Philly seems to show the back end of the line crossing over into New Jersey now (or a short time ago). Anyone in the area? Pirate? What's it look like out there? Hopefully they will get back to it soon.

Players are back on the range. Grounds crew is squeegeing off the greens (must have been a good rain). Should be ready to start back up soon. yay!

Today will be the day to get agressive and shot for the pin while they can. Greens should be soft now.

Wonder if in the future they get the Bubbahover and put a giant wetvac on it to suck up the excess water.

Apparently they will be starting back up at 12:10 (eastern). Woods/McIlroy/Scott now teeing off just before 5...so basically no way they finish the first round today.

Yeah, they might get close but unlikely. There are still several groups set to tee off after the group you mentioned. Probably a lot of golf to play tomorrow.

Finally seeing the layout some on tv...the Google earth view does not do it justice. Its longer and tighter than it looks there.

Sergio off to a blistering +6 so far. Suck it, Sergio.

Thus far, -2 is the leader. Obviously many golfers still to go, but it doesn't appear that Merion is yielding the 62's and 63's people thought would be out there.

I was figuring 66 or 67 each day. Thats still possible. But those who miss fairways and greens are being punished by this rough. Better to miss in the sand. Greens are crazy too. Despite the 7+ inches of rain they have had in the past week (including today) they are not as slow as I thought they would be it looks like. Still some chances on some greens to go right at it. As commentators have stated it looks like there wont be a ton of pars as there are several holes that are birdie-able but just as many will bogey will be the norm.

He got an 8 on one hole. That will ruin your day.

To ESPN, who is greater? Tiger, LeBron, or Tebow? Gawd the Tigerhype (Golf Channel is over the top) makes me want to see him fall flat on his face, and he has not hit a stroke as of yet!

Weather looks better for the afternoon as the really bad weather seems to have shifted South towards the Tidewater area.

I know it's early, but it's great to see Mike Weir tied for the lead. His injury problems since winning the Masters have been brutal.

Hopefully he can keep it going through Sunday.

last group takes off at 6:27 EDT. Should be able to get 9 or more in before dark. Sunset is at 8:30

I think he already has the record for most second-place finishes ever in the US Open with five.
