So if I'm understanding this story correctly, he never even met someone pretending to be this girl? What a complete fraud. I have no sympathy for him. It's not like he was duped. He was part of the lie and enjoyed living it.

But according to multiple stories, they met in person at the 2009 Stanford-Notre Dame game when their eyes met across the dance floor or some such garbage. *THEN* they became friends and eventually a "couple".

Re: 2013 DI BCS Thread: Thorthu Thame ish bacth!

So I guess the official word out of ND is that Te'o got "Catfished"..... I really feel bad that ND's athletic department is gonna get caught up in this kids lie... I feel bad for any ill effects that are gonna trickle down to their hockey and other teams...

I don't buy this one bit.... How the eff do you have your local paper (South Bend Tribune) writing about how they met after the ND/Stanford game when she doesn't exist? What the hell was their source on this and how the hell does Te'o or anyone at ND not say anything when they see this written? What the eff is going on here? This is just getting more and more bizarre...

I really hope that this stupidity gets exposed and all parties involved get reamed for this...

Re: 2013 DI BCS Thread: Thorthu Thame ish bacth!

South Bend Tribune has now taken down their article that stated Teo and Fakey McDeadfake met in person in 2009 after the Stanford game. Even if that turns out to be false, along with all the other stories of them meeting in person, we're supposed to believe in the internet age of Skype and other videochatting he didn't see actual proof of her once in three years?

Here's some possibilities I can think of:
1) He's gay and decided to try to do this as a cover-up, because a gay Mormon at a Catholic institution probably wouldn't go over well.
2) He decided to try to do this as his own platform for Heisman
3) Tin foil hat time!!! Same as #2 except this time ND was in on it! Think of all the media attention it gave them throughout the year.

I REALLY hate it when media organizations take down articles. If you are caught looking like a moron, own it and move on.

I'm betting #1... can you think of a man that would only want to see somebody they cared about on extremely sparing occasion.

Hopefully you are kidding. To the rest, find the AD's press conference online and watch it.

I won't dare idiots to then continue their misinformed bashing, because their status as an idiot would no doubt spur them to do just that.

Many people believe in all kinds of stuff that most of us would recognize as impossible or at least unlikely. Ghosts, omnipotent men living in clouds watching everything we do, mystics, Dionne Warwick, politicians, evangelists, every reality show on TV etc are all examples of the unbelievable in which you could find somebody that truly believes. Somebody right now is saying their good night prayers that tomorrow Elvis finally reappears. I can't explain how people watch Dance Moms and think it isn't completely arranged. I don't know why people watch soap operas and let their kid drown in the tub because they are so engrossed. And I don't know where the line of gullibility meets faith...but as a guy that always says "the husband killed her", "the mom clearly killed the kid", "the company knew the product was dangerous" I was absolutely convinced this was a hoax in which the player cooperated.

After watching that press meeting, I reserve the right to hear the player and his family speak...and Duke shows us all we should wait before passing final judgment...but that press conference was very clear, very frank and very plausible in my view...right now.

Sorry, have to go or the devil will make me roast in hell for all eternity. And Storage Wars is on...now that ain't fake.

I just hope Notre Dame plays Stanford some time soon. The LSJUMB will have halftime material for YEARS.

Eh, first year or two they might be funny, but they'll keep beating on it like a dead horse.

And in other news today, John L. Smith has a new job.

Really surprising that he's going to go from coaching in the SEC with Million Dollar Boosters, to a D2 program that a D2 elitist snob like myself would consider a backwater. The RMAC is considered a weak conference, and Fort Lewis College is usually a challenger for being the league's doormat. It's shocking to see him fall so far in the space of a year.

I'm not as surprised as most seem- at the beginning of the season, it was pretty clear that he didn't want the job at Arkansas- too much pressure, too much attention, too much, well, everything. Maybe the D2 part was more surprising, but moving way down isn't- he's made his money, it's time to get back and enjoy coaching.

Re: 2013 DI BCS Thread: Thorthu Thame ish bacth!

This story is really messed up. But I am waiting for the other side of the story before I cast judgment.

Re: 2013 DI BCS Thread: Thorthu Thame ish bacth!

Even if he genuinely, sincerely, 100% believed that she was a real person (incredibly unlikely), he was still the one feeding BS details to the media (or to other friends and family who then fed them to the media). Either way, he was lying - to me, it doesn't make any difference whether he was lying about a girl he thought was real or about a girl he thought was fake.
