2013 DI BCS Thread: Thorthu Thame ish bacth!

I know it's not football related and I don't mean to derail the thread, but do you have a link to that article by chance? I only wonder as I do a lot of solo excursions, and have read dozens of books and articles on those who get lost -- and I've never heard of this. My experiences, within the US at least, run the gamut from a routine one night jaunt over Paintbrush Divide in the Tetons to a brutal high altitude 80 mile slog through the relatively poorly mapped Weminuche Wilderness.

I've read extensively on both successful and failed survival situations in pretty much every environment this planet has to offer, and the only behavior I've ever come across that comes close to what you mention is that of some unfortunate souls who had to experience Vietnam -- and that certainly is not a routine survival situation, especially from a psychological standpoint. The general pattern of those who die in the wild is that, assuming they didn't suffer some catastrophic injury in the first place, is that they run out of energy and remain stationary, eventually succumbing to basic starvation. Never once has the outcome been paired up with something like you describe, best I can recall. Any more info on that?

This would have been over a decade ago and most probably would have been from either the Bangor Daily News or Portland Press Herald Sunday editions. It has stuck with me this long be cause it was a chilling article to read.

I'll google it, my recollection is that it was a special article, not just a short blurb...possibly the weekend magazine in the paper.

The article said over the years they had found people in the Maine woods who had been lost for days, found a soft patch of pine needles or some other 'bed', laid out their clothes, put personal items on top and lay down as if they were going to sleep.

Edit: don't see anything going back that far online. There is a preview of a recent article from the portland press herald on some guy who was a hermit for 27 years that has a segment of a sentence that looks like it might touch on the subject...keeps coming up as page not found .

Maryland apparently did not tell authorities that their fired swim coach was involved in an "inappropriate relationship" with a young girl over a number of years.

The NCAA Penn State standard demands significant fines and penalties. Will they do so? Not to the extent of PSU's $$/time, but they need to punish MD, don't they?

Yes, they should get the same type of treatment, if the athletic department knew of the abuse and didn't tell the authorities. Absolutely. In both cases, I don't see how someone could know about child abuse and not notify the authorities.

Possible Badgers vs LSU game at Lambeau...

http://www.channel3000.com/sports/badgers/uwlsu-football-series-getting-closer/-/4052/20356500/-/d5j2x2z/-/index.html

That would be pretty cool. Might have to go to that!
Even if LSU agrees to that (and I have my doubts), there will be two things to look out for:

  1. It's strange to see an SEC team willing to come further north than Kansas City. To come THAT far north? No way that they agree to it unless they can be assured that the game will be in early September.
  2. Even if LSU agrees to it, they get the "home" date in Houston in 2014. The second that game is over, LSU will be fighting tooth and nail to cancel the Lambeau game. Don't believe that the Lambeau game would actually happen until kickoff.

Hilarious. I love it.

Meanwhile, in bizarro world, Ohio State gets an award for compliance!
Then there's NAAC's Organization Leadership Award. This award "was designed to honor organizational leaders who have demonstrated outstanding commitments to promoting compliance within their organizations and on a national level."
I think one of the football players got that phrase tattooed on his back.

Ohio State can't trust the Catholics at Notre Dame, but trusted Terrell Pryor? Makes sense.

Texas A&M has dropped future home-and-home series with USC and Oregon. I guess now that they're part of the might SEC, they have to replace them with Troy, The Citadel, and Georgia State.

They claim the USC series was announced prematurely anyway and that Oregon is still going to happen. Sure, I believe that
