2013 Cycling Thread

Hope you are all handling your TDF withdrawal better than I am.........:D.

I can finally read twitter and certain websites without embargoing them for 12 hours. Otherwise...wish it never ended. Plan on heading over there for it in 2015. Should be fun.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Well I watched the Tour of Wallone the last two mornings online. Good win for Van Avermart! Kolobnov seemed to have a mechanical on the finishing climb after Van Avermart attacked.

And the Tour of Poland starts on Saturday and features a MTF on the Passo Pordoi.

Generally I use Steephill.tv but I guess Wallonie is so small it didn't make the cut, so I used cyclingfans.com.

Coverage today was Eurosport in English so, yeah!

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Just picked up a Garmin 510, and so far I absolutely love it. My former neighbor and occasional riding partner went to the local bike shop to have one ordered, the owner said he'd give him a great deal on it. So the guy ended up ordering two, and told my neighbor if he knew anyone else interested, he'd give them the same deal as well. So despite the fact that I should have saved the money, I bought the thing anyway. The 510 bundle for less than the unit alone sells for.

First thing it's shown me is that my cadence needs work. I thought I had a pretty decent cadence, but this shows me I'm only around 79-81 rpms. So my ride today was little gears and working on getting the legs moving. So that and the heart rate function shows me I'm seriously out of shape. Time to start again from ground zero.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Tour of Poland has been pretty cool the last few days. It looks like the UCI/World Tour is using it as a bit of an experiment to breed more interesting racing. First teams are only 6 riders so they aren't as dominant. This give attacking riders more of a chance, see Phinney's win a couple of days ago. There are also time bonuses for the rider who is most attractive (sort of a revamped daily combination classification). Under this Jon Izaguirre picked up a 10 second bonus and is now the leader, having started the day 9 seconds down on Majka. He attacked, I guess, on the penultimate climb and got some points there so he ended up with an "attractivity" bonus, now he is the leader. Should be an excellent stage today, it has 10 climbs of a cat.1 (not TdF type cat 1 but still a tough climb).

Oh, yeah, double Zoncolon in next year's Giro... http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2014-giro-ditalia-could-include-double-climb-of-the-zoncolan

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Did my fastest century ever today: 3hr, 15 minutes. Of course, it goes a lot quicker if you don't have to ride the last 43 miles after one of your tubes buckles for no reason whatsover (flat ground, no pothole, not even a pebble). Trek and I will be having words on Monday... Grrrrrr. 99.9% positive that my frame has an "original owner lifetime warranty" so shouldn't cost me any money, just a bit of the riding season.

Oh, wait. I live in SoCal - the riding season is 12 months per year.... :)

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I noticed both Froome and Porte are racing the Colorado Classic, who is Sky sending to the Vuelta? I watched the Tour of Utah the last 2 stages were good but production quality was spotty at best.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I set a record today too. 91,000-something feet of climbing. I think my Garmin might be a little off on that.

Not sure who will be riding in support but seem to recall Henao being announced as leader.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Are we doing a USCHO league for the Vuelta on velogames?

League Name: USCHO
League Code: 21141607

Good news is that I head out on vacation today and will be away from cell service and internet until Saturday night. This means it won't be possible for me to change my roster 400 times like I usually do.

OK, I'm in. hate my team and disappointed in the prices of some riders. Where are the 2 pointers? I've heard Basso is in great form...I can't believe I picked him over Henao! At least I got 2 sprinters.

Vincenzo Nibali AST
Carlos Betancur ALM
Joaquin Rodriguez KAT
Winner Anacona LAM
Theo Bos BLA
Javier Aramendia CJR
Reinardt Janse van Rensburg ARG
Juan Jose Oroz EUS
Ivan Basso

Edit: Bos caught cheating kinda so out he goes, now:
Vincenzo Nibali AST
Carlos Betancur ALM
Joaquin Rodriguez KAT
Wouter Poels VCN
Michael Matthews OGE
Diego Ulissi LAM
Reinardt Janse van Rensburg ARG
Daniel Schorn APP
Ivan Basso CAN

Guess thats about as balanced as I can get... 3 GC guys, a backup GC guy (Betencur), a TT guy who can climb (Poels), A Stage hunter (Ulissi), and 2.5 sprinters (Matthews, van Rensburg, and Schorn.

Horner won a stage and had been in red?

Guess I didn't miss anything worth watching.

Horner smoked them again and Cance victimizes Martin again! I'm loving it! Too bad I picked beta cur and Henao.

Yeah, my team is getting smoked. Guess that's what happens when I'm getting ready for vacation and pick it in three minutes without bothering to look at rosters or the route :)

Nibali back in red after today's ITT. Thankfully. This Horner nonsense is so laughable I hardly want to watch it when I get home from work.
