2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Why would that make more sense? Just keep the bracket integrity the way it should be.

No travel cost for Harvard to bc.

Assuming a bc win I see it as:

Minnesota v Quinnipiac
Cornell v Mercyhurst
Clarkson v Wisconsin
bc v Harvard

That would only be one flight (Quinny) right?

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

As opposed to sending Wisconsin to Minn. Same number of plane trips, and a five minute cab ride (for Harvard) vs a five hour bus ride (for UW). Plus it avoids an intra-conference game.

There'd be no reason to send Wisconsin to Minny. Minny is the #1 seed and should get the #8 (you PWR folks can argue who that will be). Cornell earned the win today and the #2 seed and they should get #7 Mercyhurst. As far as the 3-6 and 4-5, I think you punish Clarkson and reward Harvard by making the swap you speak of.

Clarkson-Wisconsin is a flight too.

The only way to minimize flights is to have Minnesota play Wisconsin. Then you have 0 flights. Everyone is within 400 miles, whether last team is in Qpac or RMU.

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

There's NO WAY a #5 should *ever* be sent to a #1; it isn't fair to either team. That said, rule #1 for the committee often seems to be 'screw the WCHA whenever possible'.

Look up the seedings from the 1997 men's tournament, which featured the #4 team by RPI and PWR playing the #1 team in the quarterfinals.

Is Wisconsin going to walk to Potsdam?

Long bus ride between Clarkson and Madison.

...or BU could just solve that problem for us. (Fingers crossed)

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Certainly not done yet but interesting with BU now up on BC 3-2 halfway through the third. That would change things up.

If BU wins what does the PWR Standings look like:

Minny
Cornell
Clarkson
Wisconsin
Harvard
BC
Mercy-Quinny
BU

Is this what it looks like?????

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

shame if we'll never know who was right on Quinnipiac vs. RMU :p

Now you still have 2 flights and one LOOOOOOG bus ride for BC????

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Clarkson can provide transport to campus via Golden Knights, one player per horse.

I was actually quite surprised that the flight isn't so bad. Madison to Ottawa can be done in one stop and less than 4 hours.

Remember what Jack Parker said about that bus ride? Who wants to go on that long ride just to lose 2 games to CCT and SLU? Those were the days.

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Kind of throws a monkey wrench into the NCAA mandates if none of the Boston/Cambridge teams host.

It does, but it takes away all questions about the bracket. You can have a clean bracket with no conference match ups and nobody gets "screwed".

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

There have been about a dozen or so games this weekend, and last, that would have stopped Wisconsin's slide down the Pairwise, and every one of them has gone (for a Badger fan) the wrong way. Finally one goes the right way! Whew!!
