2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Yes because with 1.7 seconds and the puck in the corner Bodie is going to get a shot off. The only way Union scores in 1.7 seconds is if Vech shoots the puck right as it is dropped. I agree the cross-check was dirty and it should have been penalized. Unfortunately for RPI, Higgs retaliated and threw the first punch at Bodie.

Obviously you know zilch about self-defense.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

That's a pretty clear video of what happened at the end. Higgs was going out to cover Bodie, which is what you do on a faceoff, and let up when the puck went in the corner. Bodie had no reason to cross-check him and that is what started everything (I would have gone after him if I was in Higgs skates). RPI shouldn't have started gooning it up like they did after that, but I'm sure there was a lot of pent up emotion coming out at that time and the Union players were obviously upset at losing. I'm at a loss to explain why Bennett did what he did, though you could see his temper rising as the 3rd period went on the refs didn't call a lot of obvious penalties. Bottomline, definitely not a proud night for Union Hockey :(.

As for the game itself, it was actually highly entertaining. RPI played very well for the first 30 minutes and Stevens was fantastic or else would have been down 3-4 goals. U on the other hand was terrible and looked like they had forgotten how to throw a bodycheck. A couple PPs in the 2nd got Union back in a rhythm and only some great goaltending by Diebold kept the game tied. I thought U had the edge in the last 30 minutes, but got too cute at times and couldn't convert. It really seemed like the team was thinking that they were still on Lake Whittemore and had lots of time to make pretty passes and fancy skating moves. This team has to get back to playing ECAC hockey - get the puck deep, take the body, win puck battles and get the puck to the net. RPI did all those things better tonight and hopefully this is a BIG wakeup call to everyone.. coaches included.

Not true at all...with a clean face off win 22 was in great position to get a shot off. That's why he was positioned where he was, and why 23 for RPI took off in his direction when the puck was dropped.

It's pretty clear who started this one...

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Forget about the going after Appert part. That is not the problem. Coaches in all sports have fought each other plenty of times before without losing their jobs. Siena's Mike Deane and BU's Mike Jarvis is the best one I ever saw. They momentarily actually made contact before assistants almost instantly yanked them apart. The real problem here is the local TV video. A punch Bennett threw APPEARS (emphasis on appears) to have been aimed at RPI's Milos Bubela. What is crystal clear, regardless of whether the punch was actually aimed at Bubela or not, is that it struck him around the neck area. If Bennett is able to survive that then throw the guy a big dinner since he survived something even the great Woody Hayes could not survive.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

It wouldn't be the first time it's happened in sports history. Remember Woody Hayes?

We'll see...I'm sure the ECAC will take into account the fact that the most of the RPI players were on the ice during the fracas and most of the Union players were on their bench, only coming out onto the ice after RB lost it...Nothing excuses Bennett's actions, but I'm sure the league will want answers from Appert as to why his entire team was on the ice and not called back to the bench...Both coaches apologized during the press conference, so the league will probably look at that as well...Neither team showered themselves with glory, but it's but another chapter in this rivalry and the good crowd will probably keep this NC game alive for quite awhile....

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Was wondering why Ken Schott did not ask Rick Bennett if he thought he might get suspended like he asked Seth at Union several years ago?
Why don't you ask Ken? Why does our thread have anything to do with what Ken writes or interviews about??? He was very clear on how poorly Union and RB acted at the end...Take your conspiracy theories back to your thread...

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

That broad street bully dove, laid on the ice to milk it, didn't miss a shift, and you know it. And I wouldn't be too sure you don't completely blow February after your coach gets fired for going after Appert.

Now I see why your own thread can't stand you...You have a chip on your shoulder and you're obviously right about everything...So, Ghost deserves a beating simply because he wears Garnet and is a Philly prospect and had the nerve to fall down after being blindsided, but the student-athlete in Cherry and White gets a pass for an obvious cheap shot...If you feel that RPI was unfairly penalized for that cheap shot last year, then Bodie gets a pass tonight, even though he clearly took the cheap shot and deserves some time off...Stop embarrassing yourself and your school and go back to being hated on your own thread...

Furthermore,, it's clear on the video that RB starts things with a push, however it was also clear that as things were starting to simmer down a bit, one of the RPI assistants pushed RB back...Does that assistant get a pink slip Monday, according to your logic? RB deserves a little time off, but this is back to being both knee-jerk and your obvious hatred of Union Hockey...I used to get caught up in the hate and the back and forth and its gotten old now...Our players were wrong, Bodie was wrong and RB was wrong...But a wise person once said, "It takes two to tango" and RPI Hockey and staff were willing dance partners tonight...

Now go troll some other thread...

MNS, thanks for the viewpoint of someone who is a fan of neither team. That's how it looked to me also.

I do add that many of the Union fans have tried to be objective here too. I agree with uniontrack's last post as far as the penalties that may be handed out to coaches.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Considering its place in the standings, Union had more to lose by getting involved with the postgame antics.

I'm surprised it got to the point that it did. That kind of stuff isn't what Union is about. Now the Dutchmen will be without at least two key regulars, a top line center in Lichtenwald and a star defenseman in Bodie, for at least one game. Time will tell what, if anything, is handed down on Rick Bennett. But you have to think there's a chance something will be. His absence wouldn't be a positive. He's better than what he showed after the game. Everyone has moments they would like to take back, and I'm sure that's one for him.

Ultimately, neither side painted themselves well after the game.

It was incumbent on Mr. Bennett to deescalate that situation, he chose not to. The physical assault on coaches and #17 cannot be excused. That was not what he should have portrayed to his young men and more importantly to the young people in the stands. I have no confidence in the league but your president should think long and hard whether this is the right person to represent Union's program.

So coming onto the ice to congratulate your goaltender after a victory is no longer allowed? Hope you remember that the next time you win a game, regardless of the opponent.

A pool of blood on the ice and stitches,,, sounds like a dive to me!

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Really? I'd argue Brook Hicks. What was he doing near the blue line with Bodie anyways? Shouldn't he be near the net celebrating with his goalie?

Umm, there was still 1.8 seconds left and a faceoff to be taken.....

BS
The Rpi Coach Shoved Rb At Least Once And Was Taunting And running His Mouth. Knowlton Will Be Taking A Look at That As Well As Ths Player Who Was Given a DQ. He has had complaints from alums about
Seth Apert is a joke as a coach and couldnt teach a dog to go sg## on a newspaper. RPI will always bd a crap program with him around. outside the bs spin all you have is losses.

Union has the right guy, RPI does not

FYI, the Denver AD is still laughing ablut his name being "citculated" as a coaching canidate. never was on their prelim top 20 list.

Right, you don't miss a shift after a pool of blood, and get points on the ensuing power play. Quit exaggerating.

If you remember....which obviously you don't, it happened with a few minutes left in period. He got fixed up in between periods. Blood, stitches and a dented in helmet cage is not an exaggeration. Curadi is an undisciplined player. That's why the ECAC was there watching his antics last night! FIRST GUYS off your bench last night did not go to celebrate. They went head on into fighting which is a major penalty for a bench clearing. RPI coaches did not even attempt to bring them back from the start of it all. No excuse for what Bennett did BUT, it can't be 6 players against an entire RPI bench.

I'll give you Haggerty started pushing. Obviously you didn't see the shoves that your scumbags were giving our players, and you see yourselves as the victims. I hope your team has to forfeit the season.
