2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Well, I was hoping that U would look much better when more players came back from injury and last night certainly was a step in that direction. Sounded like Dartmouth was sloppy and turned the puck over a lot. This team is definitely explosive offensively and has the speed to make an opponent pay for any mistakes.

I still stand by statement that the ECAC is going to be very tough. Qpac & Cornell already look like beasts, Yale & RPI have a ton of talent and should be near the top in the end, SLU and Clarkson are very dangerous as is Brown, and Harvard is undefeated with talent to be reckoned with. Counting U, thats 9 teams that should be very tough. And Dartmouth will eventually be better than they showed last night, Gate has a ton of young talent, and Princeton has one of the best forwards in the league. U was firing on all cylinders last night and hopefully can continue, but I expect there will be a bump or two in the road. Should be an exciting year regardless.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

The only lineup change tonight is Noah Henry replacing Jeff Taylor on defense.

Taylor is out with an upper-body injury. He was shaken up after taking an elbow to the head from Dartmouth's Brandon McNally in the second period of last night's 7-2 win at Dartmouth.

Another "upper body injury" which has become a euphemism for concussion. I believe McMally who is known as "McNasty" was penalized but only a two minute minor. The refs need to do their jobs and establish a zero tolerance for thuggery. Of course it would be nice to see coaches take the same approach. Gaudet's teams have impressed me as being particularly undisciplined.

2-0 Let's Go!! Great weekend for the Dutchmen! Union came out flat the first period, but turned it up the 2nd period. Stevens made a huge save late in the 3rd to keep us up a goal. Home sweet home next weekend!

Union 4, Harvard 2.
Great turnout !!!! We had twice the # of fans than Harvard. It felt like a Union Home game. In the first period we were out-skated, out-shot and outscored by Harvard, 2-0. Stevens had a great third period, made some great saves, some huge saves. Carr was fantastic. When Union was man down Carr was everywhere, in Harvard's face. This team has leaders who step up and take responsibly for winning. Coaches did a great job with line changes keeping fresh skates on the ice. Its going to be a wild ride !!!!!

Love this team. Leadership, talent and great coaching. My takeaway from Harvard game was same as yours.

Great job by the team last night and congrats to Carr for setting the new standard for goals in a career! That's the kind of effort that I like to see on the road; take the opponents best shot, bounce back & control the game, timely saves, lockdown D in the 3rd. Harvard is a very talented team and will likely be better the 2nd time around, so great to get the 2 points now and start league play on a high note. Hopefully the team is starting to gel. Is a really good sign to see different players stepping up; Coatta on Friday and Ciampini last night. Big weekend coming up with Cornell & Gate on the docket. Can't wait!

Have not yet seen Union play this year but looking at the last 4 games some monster numbers at both ends of the ice. Over 40+ shots each of those games and for the entire year haven't given up more than 25 shots in a game. Not sure I picked Union high enough (4th) in the Pick the Standings Contest.

Updated injury report anyone? When's Eli coming back?
I just listened to Ken Schott on the Whyland radio show. No mention of the injury status of Eli. If I heard him correctly he said that Max Novak was playing hurt at the end of the season in March and had postseason surgery on a torn hip muscle. The recovery was expected to be 4 to 6 months and he returned at the earlier end of that time period. The coaching staff obviously guards injury information carefully so no news is no news.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Colgate's 5 loses have come at the hands of the following currently ranked teams
#3 ranked team, (St. Cloud - twice)
#5 ranked team (Quinnipiac)
#19 ranked team (Ferris State)
#27 ranked (Bowling Green)
Colgate has played possibly the roughest schedule of any ECAC team thus far this year. We have got to show them the respect that they deserve. Of the two games this weekend, this is the more important.

VIDEO: Rick Bennett incensed after 5-3 loss to Colgate on Friday - angriest I've seen him.

Kevin Sullivan, who missed tonight's game, is out with an undisclosed injury. No specifics at this time.

Sullivan was apparently dinged up in last Saturday's win at Harvard.
