Nice one.
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich University women’s ice hockey head coach Mark Bolding announced his 2013-14 recruiting class on Monday.
FORWARDS
Kahnekaroroks (Kaka) McComber, freshman from Kahnawake, Quebec and the Ontario Hockey Academy that joins a long list of OHA alumni to play at Norwich.
“[McComber] is an unbelievably fast, hardworking, gritty forward who should be able to play at a high pace on our rink and be a good impact role player right off the bat for us,” Bolding said. “We’re hoping she can develop into a scorer as well and I think she will be a good replacement for a Jackie Perez/Steph Invernizzi-type player.”
Adelle Murphy, freshman from Roseau, Minn. and the prestigious North American Hockey Academy (NAHA) program in Stowe, Vt. Murphy scored nine goals and tallied 10 assists for 19 points in 76 games played.
“[Adelle] helped NAHA win a JWHL Championship last year,” Bolding said. She was a productive forward in high school and should be a good two-way player that will develop into an upper-level threat here.”
Rachel Bellio, sophomore transfer from Denver, Colo. that played her freshman season at Division I University of Maine and scored two goals in 28 games. Prior to UMaine, Bellio played for the nationally-renowned Shattuck-St. Mary’s program where they won back-to-back National Championships in 2010 and 2011.
“We tried to recruit Rachel during her senior year at Shattuck, but she ended up going to UMaine,” Bolding said. “We’re fortunate to get her to come here. She is a strong shooter and powerful skater. She will be a nice addition to our team and we’re looking for big things out of her.”
Shalyn Pavlisko, freshman from Oshawa, Ontario and played at Ridley College near Toronto.
“Shalyn is another strong skater that is very fit,” Bolding said. “She is projected to be an excellent two-way player and should be a great speed kid. She’ll generate scoring chances and has shown the ability to finish at the high school level.”
Madyson Moore, junior transfer from Dubuque, Iowa that played the last two seasons at New England College. Moore scored 20 goals and dished out 18 assists for 38 points in 46 games played with the Pilgrims. She scored a team-high 13 goals last season and netted five power-play tallies.
“We’re really excited about Madyson as it’s not often you get a D-III transfer within your league,” Bolding said. “She’s a big force at 5-foot-10 and a strong girl. She wants to come here and make a run for postseason play. We’re expecting her to get a lot of shots away and be a contributor in both ends of the rink.”
Moore scored three goals against Norwich last year and was the leading scorer for NEC in each of the last two seasons.
GOALIES
Taylor Fairchild, junior transfer from Overland Park, Kansas that played her last two seasons at Division I Lindenwood. She was the Lions’ top goalie as a freshman, starting in 24 games and winning five. Prior to Lindenwood, she played for the Little Caesars U-19 squad and helped lead them to a runner-up finish in the U-19 Tier I National Championship. She posted a 19-3-2 record in goal with a 1.02 goals against average and a .945 save percentage.
“Taylor put up a lot of minutes and saves her freshman year at Lindenwood,” Bolding said. “We’re looking for her to come here and try and battle for the top job. She was very successful from her U-19 days with Little Caesars and she should give us good strong goaltending option.”
Celeste Robert, freshman from Val-d’Or, Quebec that played a post-graduate season last year with Brewster Academy.
“Celeste is a very athletic goaltender that we feel like has some great potential,” Bolding said. “She’s very competitive and we’re hoping she’ll grow into our starting goaltender in a few years. She’s fully capable to play at our level and looking forward to seeing her develop into a top goalie.
