2013-2014 D1 Commitments

R U kidding me. 2015-2016   WAY TOO EARLY !!!

She's the 2nd one posted on here for 15-16 as it was previously reported that Audrey Warner (Shattuck St. Mary's u16) committed to Wisconsin. I also know that some schools are actively scouting 10th graders because they have committed their scholly allotment for 2013 and 2014.

Its kinda funny when A Prep School Player leaves for a Club Team, You always note they are from the Prep School. But when a player has played her whole Career ( besides 20 games w/ Prep school) you do not mention her home hometown team. Yes, Taylor Marchin is From Michigan and played her Career for Club Teams in Michigan. A little East coast bias , eh?

Maybe just putting down their current teams because it is most relevant? Although I'm sure everyone on here would love to know players' past teams over their entire careers, don't you think that would be a bit extensive? Hometowns are still listed to let everyone know where they came from. Putting down everyone's careers with club teams might be too long and simply is not needed. Tough calling it east coast bias if the girl's most recent team before going to college is on the east coast.

I agree with you as it is most relevant. However, as I have noted in the past, when a player plays for a club team and a prep school only the prep school is listed UNLESS its an East Coast club team, then both get listed. I do find that an East Coast bias.

I think it is listed like that because they were recruited from that team. Youth teams develop the players and club teams give them exposure, I read that somewhere. What bothers me is that Warner was recruited from some Ohio team and we list it here as Shattuck. This happened before she even enrolled at the school.

Re: 2013-2014 D1 Commitments

How come all these Div 1 coaches and scouts are recruiting more and more Canadians for their programs? Is Hockey USA not developing their players good enough to play Div 1? Some of these programs would save close to $500k a year if they would just recruit local players. Programs like Wayne State and Niagara wouldn't have folded. Everyone says that Div 1 is better than CIS but if all the Canadian players left and came back to play in Canada where they should be then CIS would be better than Div 1.

I know if I was an Alumni donating to a program I would be ****ed at seeing Canadians on the roster. I don't know how many Americans are playing CIS but it can't be very many.

Just my thoughts. I see more and more girls coming back to Canada every year after playing 1 or 2 years in the states. Must not be all it is hyped up to be.

CIS doesn't give $! If I was loaded with $ (I say that to much) and donated, I too would be ****ed if the team was loaded with Canadiens. If the girls go to college for the education, than the real question is why are the CIS schools below the US schools? Or are the girls making bad choices?

Most Canadian schools have lots of money to offer Canadian players. Most players will be out of pocket $1000-$2500 a year after athletic and academic scholorships. Maybe a little more depending on the classes they take. There is no way the Canadian players are only out that little going down south. They are more like out $10K-$15K. Plus travel costs.

Maybe this all falls down on Hockey Canada as they push their national team players to go down south even though they admit that they don't. Probably also falls on the parents as well and the minor hockey coaches. It would just be nice to see the Div 1 programs stay away from Canada.

I'm an alumnus and I donate. I am quite curious as to why I should be ****ed if my team recruits Canadians. Is there something wrong with them? Are Canadian women, as a group unpleasant and unworthy? I admit that I might be missing something since there are only four Canadians on the Gopher roster, but has Brad Frost just done a remarkable job of recruiting the likeable ones? I ask, because I've rather enjoyed rooting for them.

But please let me know. I am fairly new to watching women's hockey and if there is some bit of etiquette that I have missed that says that I should not like Canadians, please let me know as I would hate to continue committing some sort of social faux pas.

I wasn't saying that I would hate the Canadian players I was just saying I would hate that my money wasn't going to local American players. I'm just curious as to why they spend all the money on Canadians when they have American born players in their own areas to recruit.

I think it is awesome that the alumni support the team financial in the states. They wouldn't have the teams if they didn't.

Other than maybe the Ivy League education, the girls will get just as good of education in Canada then in the states. Half the time the girls have to go to university in Canada after they are done anyways because lots of programs don't transfer over the border.

Re: 2013-2014 D1 Commitments

Ok, this is silly! First of all If you look at the numbers a majority of the players playing NCAA D1 are coming from the US with a decent amount coming out of Canada. Big deal! The Canadians are coming to the D1 programs mostly on full scholarship which means tuition, room, meals, books, gear, practice, games, team travel, pre/post game meals, team clothing, training, etc, etc. The foriegn students pay an insurance fee of $600 or so. Other than that they don't pay for a thing other than personal items and travel to and from their homes. Canadian Colleges do not give full rides to players and can't even come close to what is offered by the D1 schools and some of those CIS programs only offer small amounts to certain players and many pay their own way to school (tuition is certainly a lot lower!).
AS for D1 Alumni - to them it is about the sweater and the school and playing hard and wearing it with pride and integrity while working toward acheiving success. They aren't sitting back and judging the team on the nationality of the players - silly once again. As for players running back to Canada after a year or two of NCAA D1 Hockey....Whatttt!!???

Re: 2013-2014 D1 Commitments

This "issue" is all being made more complex then it really is. If the best players in the world gravitate to a certain country (conference) then everyone in that conference benefits .... along with the individual athletes. The old adage .... "a rising tide raises all boats" applies here. e.g. .... years ago there was an "issue" of so many European alpine skiers gravitating to NCAA schools (Denver, Utah, etc) .... and taking scholarships away from Americans. It happens in many collegiate sports. However, in the final analysis the skill level generally rises for all participants.

That being said .... I still recall the negativity surrounding Minn/Duluth and all the "foreigners" on their team .... so I understand the resentment at some level .... but at the end of the day welcoming the most skilled players, from anywhere, into any league and doing well by them serves the greater good.

This! And creates a better product for the fans and alumnus to enjoy.

Agree. Well done...very.

Rising tide, 'lifts'...
"A rising tide lifts all boats"
(if I may...) Apparently originally coined by John F Kennedy, no less.
U in good company!

C'mon Dartmouth!
