I know tonight's game is on NESN, also looks like it will be streamed free by the college, is this right ?

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Time for the boys to show what they're made of. Coming out of this weekend with no points could really change things. They need to go back to doing all the little things they were doing through the early part of the season, and they've got to be hungry for the entire 60 minutes.

As always, senior night is bittersweet. It's great to honor those guys who've given their all for 4 years, but at the same time it's hard to say goodbye. We're losing another great group of players that have really helped fuel the growth of Quinnipiac hockey. Let's win one for the seniors!

Go Q!

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

A very tough weekend getting swept at home.... apparently, we've forgotten how to score goals. Two goals in two games from this team is almost unacceptable. They had plenty of chances but couldn't finish. The refs certainly had a hand in the outcome but even with that we can't lay all the blame there. My personal feeling is that several of the guys are banged up. The Jones' just haven't looked like themselves since Yale. Even Anas seems to be pressing. Federico left the game tonight and wasn't even on the bench in the 3rd. Connor Clifton getting tossed didn't help. Still, we had chances but couldn't finish.

Frustrating, but not the end of the world. They just need to go to the north country next weekend and take care of business. Two points is a must; four would be a nice cushion.

Ugh. Regressing in the second half of the season. Where have I heard this before?

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

This team is having some serious depth issues right now in my opinion. Jordan Samuels Thomas being out is killing this team. It is forcing us to play guys like Brooks Robinson and Matt Lemire tonight and neither of them should see ice time in my opinion. I think its weekends like this where you see what an injury like JST does and a departure like a top end player in Peter Quenneville does for a team. Thankfully they are going to have some serious upgrades in talent with some top BCHL guys next year but man watching some of those bottom line guys play is painful. Next weekend to me they need to get at least 3 points.

Losing Federico in the 1st and Clifton in the 2nd put us down to 4 D-men. Hibbeler moved back to D which helped but numerous guys were double shifting or skating with very little time between shifts. All things considered, they held up well under the circumstances.

I like our captain's attitude after the weekend as quoted in today's Register. Hopefully the team will respond.

Cory Hibbeler said:
Don’t panic. We’re not in a spot where we have to panic. We played well (Friday). Tonight we made some mistakes. But we’re doing the right things. We’re getting pucks to the net. Calls just aren’t going our way, but we’re not making excuses. We’ll get back to work at practice this week.

Somehow I didn't even notice Fedrico gone from my seats last night. I thought Colgate really pushed us around at times. They really dominated us in the neutral zone. Also Chip McDonald and crew were terrible last night. The Connor Clifton holding penalty in the 1st and the BVB interference penalty were jokes.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

7th in the pair wise right now as Wisconsin jumps over us with a sweep of Michigan State. The bobcats need at least 1 point next weekend to clinch a bye. Also could get help in the form of an RPI or Union win over Yale.

That's nothing new, and it's really a shame that the ref's seem to have so much control over the outcome of games. There hasn't been any accountability for ECAC officiating since I've been following the Bobcats.

Sadly, both were the right calls. Clifton had his man pinned at the side of the net. The ref was right there and appeared to tell Connor to get up a couple of times. Instead, he just sat there not allowing the 'Gate player to move. A dumb penalty to take IMHO. In his defense, I'm not sure I agree with the major he took. It was a penalty, but didn't look like an intentional knee-on-knee.

BVB was actually called for holding and watching the video it's clear he got his arm up around the guy's neck and hauled him down. It looked inadvertent to me as BVB was trying to get a better position on the puck but the hold was as blatant as could be.

Agreed -- those were both penalties. Schweizer didn't like the call, but to be honest, I did. Get up off the guy, it's not a penalty. Sit on him, it's a penalty.

The inconsistency concerns me with this team. Frankly, we're at the stage where, after last season, the only reason we're ranked where we are is reputation. It's nice to finally have a reputation, but I'm not convinced this is a top-10 team right now.

They've got two weeks to find it, or they won't have the postseason we know they're capable of.

They have some legit wins this year. UMass Lowell (2), Union, Maine, Cornell, Colgate, Yale, tie with Yale and tie with Providence. That isn't a resume where they aren't overrated. I think there a legitimate depth concerns on this team though. I mean when you have to play guys like Brooks Robinson and Matt Lemire you are definitely hurting. No offense to those players but a top 10 team shouldn't have to be dressing them on a nightly basis. Not having JST is killing this team and you are stating to feel the loss of a top talent of Peter Quenneville no longer here.

Not sure if it's really based on reputation... I do think it's more to do with our Pairwise rank which has been up there all season, and that's the only one that counts.

As to the inconsistency, keep in mind that it's not all on the guys for the slump. The other teams need to be given credit for their game plans to neutralize our offense. Everyone else seems to have figured out how to shut down our big guns, or at least limit their effectiveness recently. I think the only real problem we have is the inability to finish. That was very evident Friday with Iles giving up numerous rebounds without any Bobcats around to sweep up the trash. Even Finn last night left several that we couldn't bury.

I think it's also important to remember we're still way ahead of where anyone thought we'd be at this point this season.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Agree, re: Reputation Ranking. If we didn't make the tourney last year there's no way we'd be hanging around the Top 10 of the polls or pairwise after this sub .500 slide.

"I think it's also important to remember we're still way ahead of where anyone thought we'd be at this point this season."

So after the team reached the No. 2 ranking in the nation you thought that they'd go ice cold?

You've got to remember that the poll means absolutely nothing. It's more like a popularity contest based on recent performance. As for the Pairwise, we're not "hanging around the Top 10". That's an earned ranking and has nothing to do with reputation. It's also the only ranking that matters. Yes, we've dropped a few spots lately but we're still in good shape, and I don't think we've gone "ice cold".

You can't measure the season by the results of the last 3 weeks. We're 21-8-5 with 2 regular season games to go. Only a fair weather fan would throw in the towel over a couple of losses. We've got 2 games left before the ECAC playoff's begin. Let's at least wait to see how we do next weekend before jumping off the bridge.

Or, I suppose we can bring up the old standby: Fire Rand! ;)

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Sunday recruit stats

BCHL
Jonah Renouf 1 assist
Nathan Renouf 1 assist

AJHL
Andrew Taverner 1 goal 1 assist (in his last 5 games he has been hot with 5 goals and 5 assists and has moved up to 7th in the AJHL in scoring only a point behind Union commit Spencer Foo who is 6th)

Both Nelson Gadoury and Tanner MacMaster out of the lineup again. I am trying to figure out why they are both not playing for Camrose.

USHL
Vince Pedrie 1 assist with a plus 2 rating

USPHL
Chase Priske 1 assist (As I said earlier playing next season with Salmon in the BCHL)
John DeRoche 1 goal 2 assists
Alex Whelan 1 goal 3 assists
Ryan Finnegan did not record any points in playoff loss (season looks to be over for him)
