2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

FiveHole I'm a Mainer ... Can't see QU and Maine take each other in the tourney. Regular season is one thing but elimination YIKES! Dad would never let us live it down
Ahhh... I see. Well, go back to sleep and see if you can see who wins. Then you'll know whether or not to jump. ;) :D

The thread title itself could be a jinx. Are you guys a lock for Philly? I think it would be better stated "towards the NCAA Tourney"

It'd take 4 or 5 losses in the rest of our games to fall out. Considering we've only lost 6 thus far it'd be safe to say we're in. That's the difference between us and some other team in the Hamden area ;)

The title doesn't say we are guaranteed for Philly. It's says the "final push towards Philadelphia". That starts with a tournament berth which is pretty much a lock. 2 wins this weekend would make a return trip to the a tournament a guarantee.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

AJHL forward Tanner MacMaster, who had been committed to Boston College, has flipped to Quinnipiac. When MacMaster had committed to BC, just under a year ago, he was considered a pre-eminent draft prospect from the AJHL this year, and murmurs out of those who’ve visited the league are that his college and draft stock have dropped a bit, while BU’s Brandon Hickey and Wisconsin’s Cameron Hughes have instead surfaced as the league’s top prospects. Never-the-less, the 5’10 forward has some evident offensive skill, so time will tell whether this was a prescient pick-up for the Bobcats. The former AJHL rookie of the year is scoring at a similar clip as he did last season, and will enter school as a true freshman next fall.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

If you haven't seen this article about Cory Hibbeler yet, stop what you're doing and go read it now. A great piece about our captain, who, in my opinion, is the best Bobcats captain since Reid Cashman. I've enjoyed watching his QU career develop and he's been an absolute beast this year, hustling every shift and leading by example.

I do not know nor have I ever talked to Cory, but I've said this before, and I'll say it again. If he needs someone to be on the ice for him during Saturday's Senior Night, I would be honored to be there for him. He is truly an unsung hero of the current senior class.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

On Thursday night two recruits were in action. The Petruzzelli brothers contributed in a 5-2 win over 3 time defending state champion and current #1 team Malden Catholic. Keith Petruzzelli got the start in net as a freshman and stopped 28 of 30 shots while DJ Petruzzelli had 1 goal and 1 assist. Springfield Cathedral will now head to the Super 8 tournament. It will be interesting to see if Keith Petruzzelli starts in the Super 8 over the senior goaltender especially after his performance against Malden Catholic.

My recap of Springfield Cathedral's 5-2 win over Malden Catholic. Keith Petruzzelli made 26 of 28 saves while brother D.J. had a highlight reel goal.

The second link was my recap of the team's 9-0 win over Needham the night before. Petruzzelli came in for mop up duty in the 3rd period.

Big weekend of games starting tonight with Cornell. Game to be broadcast on NESN. Lets see if Jordan Samuels Thomas is back from his shoulder injury.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Final regular season weekend at the Bank. Four huge points on the line. Senior night festivities tomorrow. Both games televised. It doesn't get any better than this.

The boys need to come out swinging and not let up. A sweep puts them in great shape for both the league and NCAA's. Of course, it's one game at a time so they need to take care of business tonight before worrying about tomorrow.

Go Q!

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

A tough loss tonight. Offense was snakebitten all night hitting posts and Iles was huge for Cornell tonight. Now we are tied for 2nd with Colgate with a huge game tomorrow night. It is definitely evident that this team misses Jordan Samuels Thomas whose big body could be used in front the net on screening the goalie. Need him back healthy ASAP.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Ugh... not good... not good at all. They had plenty of chances but couldn't convert. Iles was good but I don't think he was great. He left a lot of rebounds but we never seemed to have anyone close to them. Anas' giveaway that led to the Ferlin goal was huge and gave all the momentum to Cornell. We got some mojo back in the third but again couldn't convert.

Makes tomorrow a must win for sure. Need to come out of this weekend with at least 2 points.
