2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Very disappointing. That OT goal was a nightmare defensively. Couple bad choices with tired legs and tired minds, and Colgate wins it.

By the way, I had to listen to the Colgate radio announcer on the drive home from work (couldn't pull up QUN on my phone). Very impressed with how impartial he was. Seriously. It's tough to find an impartial play-by-play guy in this league, so major props to Colgate for having one.

Time to gear up for the Tourney. Can't say I'm expecting what we got last year, but anything can happen this time of year. Hope for some magic.

You guys will be ready, I think you'll get your match with Union next Saturday. Could only listen, but it sounded like a great hockey game between two really good teams.

I like Quinnipiac offensively, but they're just not playing their best hockey right now. Ripe for the picking. I think they have the potential to get back to the Frozen Four, but I could absolutely see them getting bounced in the first round. If we see their best, they'll be a tough out. I'm just not sure we're going to see their best.

We're all Wisconsin fans tomorrow. If Wisconsin wins we will be in Bridgeport. If Ohio State wins we have to hope the committee moves us to Bridgeport

Wisconsin and Ohio State both split 4 games this year with each winning on each others ice.

Heart-wrenching loss. Outplayed 'Gate most of the night but again didn't have much luck. Three breakaway's where we couldn't get a decent shot away. The flub by Garteig behind the night ended up coming back to haunt him. Just wasn't meant to be... again.

Congrats to Colgate for hanging with us for 80:58. They'll be tired tomorrow night (or is that tonight?) but it should be a good game with Union. Either team is worthy of the ECAC Championship.

The boys can't let this one get to them. There's still hockey left to be played and a much bigger prize at stake. I'm patiently waiting to see where well be next weekend.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

What's the seeding scenario if Ohio state wins?

If OSU wins, looks like that could put QU at 7th, which might send them to Worcester.

But here's the other side of that token. If OSU and Colgate win, QU is 7th and Colgate could end up 10th. Can't have teams from the same conference face off, so then, perhaps, they'd move QU back to Bridgeport.

Frankly, let's just hope Wisco wins, because I'd really love to see the Bobcats in Bridgeport.

Oh! I know Bridgeport is ideal but all us Boston bobcats would love Worcester Saturday/Sunday

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

While I am closer to Worcester, I'd like to avoid Boston College before the Frozen Four if we get there so I don't mind going to Bridgeport.

At least we don't have to sweat out today needing help from other teams to make the tournament.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

I just wanted to say that was a great game last night. It's unfortunate that someone had to be on the short end of it, but hopefully this means you guys will be playing in Bridgeport or Worcester next weekend (but as a Colgate fan who lives in the Boston area, I'm hoping 'Gate ends up in Worcester).

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Don't know about the Go Q part, but have fun up there Mark. It is a wonderful town, a wonderful atmosphere and I am glad the tournament is back there.
Well Mike, we didn't quite go far enough. :( It was a good game and both teams had their chances.

The rink really felt like hockey. So did the town. All over are signs and posters saying "Welcome Back ECAC". Seemed to be a lot of locals at the games yesterday too. What I've been trying to figure out is what did they do with all those people when the Olympics were here? I mean, this is a very small town and Main St was bustling yesterday. Hard to imagine what throngs of people over 2 weeks would have been like.

Unfortunately today is cold and it's supposed to snow most of the day. I was hoping to ride around a bit and see some of the other sites, like the ski jump area... those towers look pretty impressive when you drive into town. Not sure what I'll end up doing...

Since I went to Albany the last year there, and two terrible weekends in Atlantic City, being here in Lake Placid seems to make sense from a hockey point of view. Maybe a little off the beaten path for many people though. Cornell, Colgate, and Union all travelled well. We had a decent showing but I think that was tempered by a lack of buses from Hamden. I'm not sure why the school didn't provide any (Women's Frozen Four aside). We didn't have our band either which I thought was a poor choice. No Ice Cats either. :(

Aside from the sheer physical beauty of Lake Placid the thing I liked the most was the fact that we were the only game in town. Everyone is there for the hockey and we don't get lost in a big city.
The ski jumping area is definitely cool and I don't know if they still do it but you used to be able to take a bobsled ride from partway down the bobsled course. There is also a local Tobbagin run that goes down a chute onto Mirror Lake. Or........for an indoor activity you could go over to Saranac Lake and take a tour and get samples at Saranac Brewery. I think they do the Tours in the afternoon but the best part is the tasting room.
Have fun up there Mark.

There's definitely several signs of a hockey tournament in town, but I can't say it feels like we're the only game in town. I spent about an hour down on Main St just walking around. Didn't really sense a hockey vibe at all. Now maybe that would have been different if I parked myself in a pub for the afternoon.

Went to the ski jump complex but it was snowing hard and the wind was brutal so I turned around and left. Saw some flyers about the bobsled and toboggan runs but , again, the snow put a crimp on everything. Yeah, I'm a wuss in my old age. I did watch a couple of dogsleds going across the lake which was impressive having never saw one in person before.

I have to be honest... I did head up to Saranac Lake but it wasn't for any brewery tour or sightseeing. I hunted down the local Dunkin Donuts for my caffeine fix! ;)

Going to head to the arena shortly. Not sure who to root for since both teams are worthy. I guess I need to give Union the nod because they appear to have the more complete package. Plus, 3 consecutive Whitelaw's by a team that was considered a door mat 5 years ago is pretty remarkable.

Selfishly, I miss the consy game. Would have loved another shot at the Big Red! ;)

I live only 40 minutes from Lake Placid and visit frequently, many times when there is nothing going on hockey wise and even during the summer and I always get a hockey vibe. I've been to the ECAC tournament several times previously in Placid and I always felt welcomed and had that special feeling. Walking up the streets seeing fans with their team jerseys and people wandering the streets, it was always a great time. On the contrary, I also frequented the tournament when it was in Albany as well ... It certainly didn't feel like hockey, unless you were within a 20 foot radius of the Times Union Center and Atlantic City? Yeah, not even going to go there ... Unfortunately my plans to make it down to Lake Placid were changed at the last minute as I know have a family function to partake in. It sucks to not be able to be there to enjoy the festivities, but next year I'll make it no matter what. Enjoy the game tonight Mark! :)

All I saw earlier were women shopping. If I saw 6 people I could identify as hockey fans, that was a lot. Maybe it's the weather or maybe I'm just not observant enough.

Don't get me wrong, I love being here and it's certainly way better than the other venues. The arena gave me the same feeling I got when I went to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time... the history just rains on you. To be fair, I'm here alone so that's also probably curtailing my enthusiasm somewhat.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Mark, Next time that you come up, make reservations in advance for the bobsled, I did it today and it was well worth the money! We also took a ride over to Whiteface Mountain and had a cocktail in the lodge. See ya at the game.

Aw c'mon. You can't REALLY root for either one, can you? I'd go for the tie!:D

Shouldn't you be working right now! :)

I watched the first period last night and then headed to a buddy's house (old friend home from college who I hadn't been able to hang out with for awhile) so I had to listen to the game. Bummer of a loss but now it is time to focus on the real goal.

Been to lake placid once and I had an amazing time. I was on the road with the women's team two years ago for a road trip to Clarkson in the playoffs. We were on the bus for a long time and had already gone through one movie, snow was coming down heavy, miracle on for the second movie. I'm looking out the bus window and I see a sign for lake placid. Just then rick seeley gets up and says we are making a pit stop. Next thing I know I'm standing in the middle of 1980 rink. Very very cool.

Sitting at home now and just about everything you could possibly watch is on. I've got access to all the hockey and basketball I could ever ask for. Too bad someone is at work and is missing out on this great tv package.

Amazing to think it has been a full year since that amazing journey started. Feels like it was just yesterday I was standing in my first casino, prepping for the 1 seed, explaining to my professors why I wasn't going to be at class for a few Fridays and that I was not a member of the hockey team. I had the hair for it if that counts.
