Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Definitely left a point on the ice tonight. Allowing Harvard to tie it late in the 3rd with a scrum in front... why are the D-men clearing out those bodies? Even worse, we outplayed Harvard in the 3rd and should have been able to put it away.

Oh well... it is what it is. Back home for a big weekend against the Dutchmen and Engineers.

I'll repeat what I said on Friday ... It's time to score MORE goals. This is not the kind of team I thought they'd be. Jumped out of the gate and are now cooling off sounds alarmingly familiar to years past. Am I hitting the panic button? I'm certainly thinking about it. But Larson the team only has 3 losses, aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself!

Yes, yes I am.

Currie, Davies, L. Barron and Dalhuisen are all gone. While not all four of those guys were studs - they were wonderful as a group. The D can only do so much and there isn't a senior in net this year. As the pressure mounts I wonder how the young D core will do and I wonder how well Federico and Tolkinen will do leading them.

Score more and all my worries disappear like a 3-0 third period deficit to Union. I don't know where you've gone Anas, but come home to the box score. Peca play like every game is at the Dunkin Donuts Center. JST - just pretend every team is Maine. Jones Brothers - Keep drinking coffee before games ... maybe just add one extra pack of sugar.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't think you guys are as good as you think you are. Harvard is not as bad as our record. The days of blowing out second division teams are over. The talent gap isn't as wide as it used to be in the ECAC or HE for that matter. Look even BC has an off night here and there. It happens. You played the same type of game against Maine. That isn't going to get you to the Frozen Four.

Will leave who should of won the QU at Harvard game to the rink rats, but was very clear that the QU Fans outnumbered the Harvard fans on a very cold Tuesday night in Cambridge. The QU fans are quickly becoming one of the best travelling fans in the ECAC and all of college ice hockey.

QU started out well, and I think raised their own (and our) expectations of them. They're cooling off now a bit. The Bobcats are young, but this team has some seriously high-end talent. Lately, they've slumped scoring goals, but they're still outshooting and outpossessing their opponent severely in most games. This game, actually, was one of the few times this season they didn't have a huge shot advantage. Speaks well for Harvard, to be sure.

Give credit to Girard. He kept Harvard in the game. He made a huge save on Peca in the 3rd period that would have made it 3-1.
Girard did play well but we managed to get a couple by him and that should have been enough. The game should have never gone to OT.

Easily agree with that. I expect the same thing against Brown next month as well. Would have been nice though for the alumni to do an event before the Merrimack game in 2 weeks

They did outnumber the Harvard fans, usually every visiting team has more fans than Harvard, but they were quiet. I expected a louder bunch after sitting next to the QU section in Ptittsburgh last year.

We were frozen from the Igloo that is Bright Hockey Center.

I think I mentioned this in an earlier thread....if a kid goes uncommitted and he hasn't played major junior the reason is usually poor grades.
I've heard Rand say he is just as proud of the Bobcats scholastic achievements as he is of their on ice record.

As for Pierog, not sure what's up there. I know for a fact there are schools interested.

Ken

And Pierog just committed to Clarkson for the 2014-15 campaign. So we will indeed see him in the ECAC.

I'll admit my expectations were through the roof as this team came out of the gate. THey showed what they could do and were on fire. Now they're just lukewarm.

Maybe the freshmen, being unknowns, were baffling the competition and now that there's plenty of film to review the other teams are catching on. However, it appears to me that the freshmen have peaked too early. It's a big adjustment coming to D-I and having to juggle the learning in addition to the sport they love.

I'll acknowledge that we're loaded for the next few seasons... but my normally patient and optimistic self is feeling a bit greedy. We have all the tools for success now and that's what I'm hoping for.

I think it's time for Peca to be put on the Jones' line. Everyone assumed that's what we'd do when the season started, and many felt it could be the best line in the country. Matt is obviously struggling and Anas has cooled off somewhat. Shake things up and see what happens.

Defensively, the guys need to start clearing out the bodies in front of Garteig. Harvard's tying goal was a direct result of too many bodies able to whack at the puck. Lay 'em out and clear the puck!

This weekend is going to be a huge test. Union appears poised to be a contender. They'll be the team to beat most likely unless we find some of our early season magic. No better place to start than Friday night.

I'm thinking of making a separate Quinnipiac recruiting thread to track future recruits. With the rise of the program it would be nice to have one thread for the season and one for future recruits. Want some thoughts from other Quinnipiac posters. Feedback is welcome.

I say we keep it all on this one. If you look at how many views we get on this thread it's not as many as other schools in some cases. There's 10 people who comment on here, no need for two threads IMO.

Excellent....happy for him. I enjoyed his work when he was an Eagle.

Been down for the count. This is the 1st time after years and years of getting a flu shot where I ended up getting
the flu. Missed Tuesday night's game.....couldn't get my butt out of bed to walk down to the computer room. :-(

Game day at the Bank.

A pivotal game that will take a complete effort.

Go Q!

I am trying to decide between this game or a trip to Princeton and check out their rink for two games in a row. Stay overnight in my car in NJ.
