Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

I will be there as well.
Coming with a posse? ;) We're heading up early to grab something to eat before the game. Hoping to see lot's of blue & gold tonight!

In my opinion this is a huge weekend for the Bobcats. While UML fell from #1 last week, they're still a formidable foe and will be a good test for our young team. The freshmen impressed me last week but still have a way to go to be consistent. That's where the upperclassmen need to step up. Most of them were all but invisible in Alaska. It will take a total team effort to contend for the big prize this year. That effort has to start tonight.

If the D can give Gartieg plenty of help I think the offense can put some points on the scoreboard. We'll know a lot more about this team after tonight's game.

Go Q!

Probably not gonna make the game tonight despite it being close to home, but I'll see everyone tomorrow in Hamden!

It's actually 2 blocks away, but will only take you a couple of minutes to walk there.

Just stopped in to share this video I found. Must watch. I have to work an overnight tonight, so I won't make it. Gotta go to bed soon! Go Bobcats. See you all at home tomorrow.

Never thought I'd care this much about this school, but for some reason I still do. I think the magic can continue. Here's to hoping they let Bui play one more year.

Just woke up and saw the score. HERE WE GO. Grab a broom ... We got some non-championship banners to raise!

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Went to the game tonight at Lowell. Was pretty impressed at the effort of Quinnipiac on the road tonight especially the defense. They played very well in front of Garteig. Took too many penalties but the PK was excellent tonight.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

It was a quality effort and a quality win. UML was never able to establish anything offensively. We won lots of battles and were terrific on the PK. The freshmen all played like seasoned vets which was nice to see. Peca, the Jones, and JST were forces all night long. Just a good, all around effort... the trick will be to duplicate that tomorrow (later today?) in the home opener.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Opening day at the Bank!

After last night, the team can't have any let down. UML will most certainly change their game plan to compensate for last night. The Bobcats can't sit back and must attack from the drop of the puck. They looked like a "team" last night and need that to continue. They're at their best when they work as a unit.

The freshmen seem to be filling the holes quite nicely. Last night I was really impressed by Schutt as he was very aggressive and wasn't afraid to mix it up. Both Cliftons were on their games as well. While Connor Clifton may get all the headlines, brother Tim is no slouch. Collectively, the incoming class seems as good if not better than any I've seen to date.

One thing they really need to work on tonight is staying out of the box. Several of last night's penalties came away from the play and sooner or later that will catch up with them. If they reduce the time in the sin bin and play another game of solid D, I like their chances.

Hope to see a great crowd tonight!

Go Q!

Looking for a stream for tonight. It seems like QU does this on YouTube? Found this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lARqpJ9uLDI

Is this accurate or is there another place to watch it? Thanks.

Good effort from your team last night. Hope those who traveled up to the Tsongas had a nice experience in our rink.

Q picked up a new recruit. Johnny DeRoche from the Junior Bruins. Left shot F. Very skilled and fast. Prob in 3 years. 98 birthyear

Yes, they've been using YouTube to stream their games this season.

A shame, though, they didn't show the banner raising on the stream. Would have loved to see that.

Ok thanks. Hope we have an entertaining game and UML continues their alternating win/loss.

And of course stream isn't working :(

Yeah, that's pretty embarrassing. The video is working now, they got it up late in the first period -- there's no audio, but ... small victories.

Well, I'll tell you what. This team is ridiculously skilled. They're going to score a ton of goals this season.

And, Gartieg is not going to replicate Eric Hartzell, but that's just because he won't be able to replicate the best season by a goalie in school history. He looks like he's going to be a very, very good goaltender for this team. Reminds me of the way Bud Fisher played his first two seasons in Hamden.

Another good win, though the effort on the ice was not the best. They were way more sloppy tonight but luckily UML couldn't capitalize. D had some lapses but did what they needed to do when it counted. The 5 minute kill was great. Gartieg was very good again and had a lot of help out front.

A great weekend overall. Well done boys.

The new video boards are awesome! Unbelieveable! Fantastic! Just beautiful! And the video ribbons in the corners are sweet too.

The ceremony before the game was tasteful and the new banners are very nice. Three surprise (invited) guests in attendance as well. Eric Hartzell, Kevin Bui, and Clay Harvey were there.

A full student section (and many were there early) and an electric crowd made for a great atmosphere. Hopefully that will continue.

I think Gartieg is the real deal and will equal or surpass Hartzell by the end of his Bobcat career. He his so smooth and unfazed.

Yes it twas a great night last night raising the banners, unveiling the new "Bob-Boards" and also seeing a sell-out crowd and a 3-1 win over a very good UMass Lowell team. The video "unveiling" the new "Bob-Boards" is now up on Quinnipiac Athletics QUTube site:

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Hey, Bobcat fans. WHO WANTS A SCREEKTEK T-SHIRT?!?!?!?!

Good to be back to another hockey season. Last night was a blast for the home opener. I was thrilled to get to make it into an event with some of my best alumni friends -- Schvatz, Larson and others. We have to change our slogans to include Section 112, right guys? We're going to have a lot of fun this year (maybe not quite as much as last year, but still plenty). A few random observations and notes:

- We were all very pleasantly surprised with all the pregame stuff. We've gotten used to being underwhelmed over the years, but everything before the game really exceeded our observations. The cracking away of the old scoreboard graphic (which made the screens look standard-def and worried us) into the new setup was really awesome. The banners were all tasteful (we think the 2013 Frozen Four and 2013 East Regional champs banners could have been combined, though), and having some of last year's guys there made that extra special. I have to say that the graphics package the company built for us is stupendous, with the Bank's steel supports as the backgrounds. The video has a lot of potential when everyone figures out what's going on. But, for the love of God, stop calling them Bob-Boards. That sounds ridiculous.

- With the exception of the first 5-6 minutes of the game, I thought Michael Garteig looked really good in net. I'm sure the nerves were definitely a factor throughout the night with his first home opener as the starter, but I think we're going to be in good shape with him. He looked more comfortable in the second and third periods.

- I hope the national folks are ready to get Jordan Samuels-Thomas on their way-early Hobey Baker radars. Over the summer, we figured it would be more likely that Matthew Peca would be the guy to get those looks from Quinnipiac (he still may when everything starts to shake out) but JST has been tremendous to start this season. He's got tremendous power and is fearless in the zone. Gotta like his aggressiveness.

- Of the freshmen, Connor Clifton and Peter Quenneville looked the best. As their placements on lines suggest, they're immediate top-line material and have showed it so far. I thought Derek Smith played really well, too, on defense. We lost some great players on defense, obviously, but Clifton and Smith are really solid replacements.

- Special teams were fantastic. We've come to expect the penalty kill to be excellent, but the power play was pretty good for the most part.

All in all, just an awesome night. Looking forward to many, many more this season. GO BOBCATS!
