Barring any last minute efforts at reconciling, it's appears LaFontaine days with #Sabres is over. One source described situation as "ugly"

Edit:

John Buccigross ‏@Buccigross 23s
Pat LaFontaine resigns in Buffalo? Weird.

Grapes says GM Tim Murray went straight to Pegula with Miller trade. Lafontaine said screw you and quit.

Re: 2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

I've heard similar. LaFontaine wanted to give Miller an extension.

As I said, Halak is just a lateral move. Pat was right, IMO. Only reasoning I can figure is that Halak will be slightly cheaper come contract renewal time, or Miller wanted to be traded to a contender (which would be surprising).

I like Myers. He's big and he can score. Ignore that +/- rating.

Great, so he's big.
He doesn't use his size much.
He can score, but his numbers have dropped nearly yearly since his rookie year and if you are going to be a defenseman who doesn't play defense, you'd better score like Karlsson.

Could have something to do with the broken leg he had a while back. I dunno.

More on the Sabres and LaFontaine, including these nuggets:

LaFontaine was also not seen nor heard from Friday during the activity surrounding the big trade. LaFontaine, remember, spoke out strongly about the Sabres keeping Miller on multiple occasions and it was highly unusual for him to be absent on the night a face-of-the-franchise player like Miller was traded.

In addition, interim coach Ted Nolan revealed during his postgame news conference that he was told by Joe Battista, the team's VP of hockey-related businesses, to pull both Miller and Ott from the lineup. That was also curious. Battista, a longtime friend of Pegula, was just hired this year from Penn State and has zero NHL experience.

You.

You, sir.

The guy who just sang the national anthem for the Caps-Flyers game.

Yes, you.

You should be the man singing the national anthem before EVERY major sporting event until I say "when". And just so you know, I don't plan on saying "when" in your general direction for a very, very long time.

Quite.

Player for Washington drove a Flyer right into the boards by striking him directly in the back.

He's going to get some days off.

Celebrating Hockey Day in America with an outdoor game in Canada, that's actually being played indoors...

Sounds like the NHL!

Sounds like the NHL!

But 19 players on those two teams played college hockey in the US!

Wild get Bryzgalov from Edmonton for a 4th

Re: 2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

Meanwhile, it's only fitting that Dustin Penner gets traded on National Pancake Day. Penner goes to Washington for a 4th.
