2013-14 Hockey East scheduling

No, travel partners as in BC plays at Merr and BU at UM-L on Friday, then BC at UM-L and BU at Merr on Saturday. Later in the season BC hosts Merr and BU hosts UM-L on Friday, then BC hosts UM-L and BU hosts Merr on Saturday.

No need for that

No need for that

Seriously, there's no need for such formality with the in-state games. I'm pretty sure they just throw darts at the calendar to figure this stuff out anyway. Don't forget that HEA is basically "a solitary man with a messy apartment which may or may not contain a chicken."

Re: 2013-14 Hockey East scheduling

“We’re $200,000 beyond our budget now and we’re going to Notre Dame for two [league] games next season and that will cost us $50,000. So we’re going to have to raise the funds for it,” said Whitehead.

so...
we know the schedule is past draft stage :)
and we know that nd will be visiting orono in 2014-2015

I really hope that it is only Norter Dame that has the "two away this season and two at home" the next season scenario.... not a fan that we will even have it for them

And it will cost $50,000 to take the team to Notre Dame? It it me or does that seem high? (I have not done the quick math).

How many people travel total including players, coaches, managers etc? 25 players, 5 coaches plus at most 10 others (trainers, equipment man etc) does that sound right? So 40?

Bunk 2 to a room at the hotel? So 20 rooms x 3 nights = 60 room nights at the Hampton Inn = $6000?

Flights? $500 x 40 (if we are talking commercial?) = $20,000 (no idea what a charter would cost)

Plus meals, bus rental to and from airport/hotel/game etc...

You get to $50,000 pretty quick actually.

That's hilarious... they can't get anybody to play at Maine? They can only get ECAC and AHA in general? Har.

I would think that for this year at least, their record is not helping... big teams are going to want to play a likely TUC.

Re: 2013-14 Hockey East scheduling

If Maine plays two at ND, yet has a balanced schedule playing 10 teams - how does that work?

Good point. If you assume ND is 2 home / 2 away alternating years and every other team 1 home / 1 away every year... that would be and 11 away / 9 home one year then 9 away / 11 home the next.

Must be another team that is going to do the 2 home / 2 away alternating year schedule.

That sucks

Re: 2013-14 Hockey East scheduling

Maine will probably play all twos next season.
Which would unbalance all the other schedules in HE.

edit: Wait. No, it wouldn't. It would balance it for everybody. The question is the following year with the addition of UConn.

Thinking more about it....

If ND, Maine and UVM do all 2's either home or away next season... they could each have 10 home / 10 away every season...

But the other schools would have either 11 home / 9 away or 9 home / 11 away....

So that does not seem like it would be fair...

Edit: Although as it is set up now teams have a non balance between home / away.... So prob not a big deal.

not really... there are 4-two sets (4H/4A) and 6 splits (6H/6A). UVM, ND, UME are the two-sets for everybody... and then the rest get a random with somebody else in league... preferably a team that isn't a direct rival.

Say... BC/UMass, UML-BU, NU-PC, and MC-UNH.

edit: note that these games need not be scheduled consecutively

No. If UVM, ND, and ME are full weekends that would be unbalanced. If ME and ND play full weekends, they would have 5 home weekends, and 5 away. Everybody else would have 1 home weekend and 1 away weekend, and split home-and-homes with the remaining 8 teams. Balanced schedule.

Until UConn arrives. Then I don't think it is possible without playing everybody home and home, which would be stupid with ND. Flying there for one game is cost-prohibitive.
