There *may* have been some sandbagging in my previous post. :D

Re: 2012 West Regional: North Dakota vs Western Michigan; Minnesota vs Boston Univers

Congrats, Gophs. Good luck in Tampa.

Re: 2012 West Regional: North Dakota vs Western Michigan; Minnesota vs Boston Univers

You can take your stinkin' Broadmoor and shove it up your ***!!!!!

Re: 2012 West Regional: North Dakota vs Western Michigan; Minnesota vs Boston Univers

Ha ha, enjoy the offseason!

I will. I didn't expect a whole lot from this team, but thanks to the Gophers we got to win a 3rd straight Broadmoor in the Gophers backyard. It was more than I could've ever asked for.

Great game by the Gophers, they kept UND to the outside and gave them little to shoot at and when they did Patterson was solid.

Feels good not to be posting in an off-season thread this time of year, been awhile.

And who says that Gopher fans don't have class.

Clearly you're not familiar with Tanner Boyle.

Congratulations to Minnesota. The Gophers played very well, and capitalized on their opportunities. Patterson played very well when he needed to. Minnesota's defense played very strong along the boards and kept North Dakota from cycling the puck and carrying possession. Obviously the Gopher forwards were strong as well, and were strong in their own end as well as on the rush. Disappointing result for North Dakota, but I think most Sioux fans were realistic about our chances heading into this game. Minnesota has been the best team in the WCHA this season, and are a well deserved Frozen Four squad. If BC wins this evening, the Gophers will have at least one Sioux fan on their side.

Once again, Congratulations to the Gophers. Well played game, and great season, and good luck in Tampa.

Classy post man. Thank you! Great season by the Sioux all things considering. Amazing how far they got with the hand they were dealt.

I think it will be awhile before Gopher fans have to post in an unusually early offseason thread. They have a great team, and have the shelves loaded for the next few years. Enjoy the Frozen Four.

Now...hopefully Duluth can join the Gophers.

You're welcome. Minnesota is a classy program, and they deserved everything they have won this year. They have a gritty, determined team, and I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the Gophers were to take home the title in Tampa.

As for North Dakota, we had a rough deal of cards this season, but the team really rallied around that and produced a team capable of getting to the Frozen Four. They were outmatched today, but hopefully they look at the bright spots and head into next year with renewed health, focus, and determination. North Dakota might be the best team in the country next year, depending on who comes back and ultimately who comes in.

Thank you, FS23. Classy as always. I got grilled last year on here for congratulating UND on a good season, but I have to congratulate them another one this year despite a rash of injuries and defections. I was not comfortable with this game until there was 1 minute left in the game. That says something about the quality of the opponent.

Thanks FS23 classy post as always.

Yeah I'm rooting for UMD as well.

Hey, congrats on a great season from UND, and my sympathies to the good UND fans (I know there's one or two ;) ).

I am so ecstatic right now.

Re: 2012 West Regional: North Dakota vs Western Michigan; Minnesota vs Boston Univers

Congrats, gophers. Solid game, defensively and in net we were outmatched. You're definitely capable of taking home a title. Good luck.

Definitely proud of this Sioux team. A little bit lower expectations for this year, and they were definitely exceeded. Battling through the adversity, and never giving up, those are things that make you proud to be a fan. Hoping everybody stays, but gut tells me Kristo has played his last game for us.

Another great matchup. Really gonna miss watching these teams go at it.

Re: 2012 West Regional: North Dakota vs Western Michigan; Minnesota vs Boston Univers

Yeah I think the 12 yo Glenlivet is coming out tonight. :)

No drinking for this guy tonight (although I had a couple this morning at the tailgate). I had my fill over the past couple of days.

Re: 2012 West Regional: North Dakota vs Western Michigan; Minnesota vs Boston Univers

That sure was quite the game, nowhere near the outcome I expected.

One of the best rivalries in College hockey will be greatly missed. Its like watching drunk twins kick the snot out of eachother at the annual family reunion.

Congrats to both teams on a great season, and best of luck to the Gophers.

Ignore spreadsheet boy.

I'm glad last week (and for me personally, 2007) is now avenged. Having my team's season ended by yours got mighty tiresome over the last few years, so it's nice to finally return the favor (first time MN has ended UND's season since the '02 playoffs).

Given the circumstances (and now that the game is over :p), I must say UND overachieved. Too many injuries, too little depth, and too many walk-ons to reasonably expect them to make a run to the frozen four / title. Yet, they very nearly did just that, and that is a testament to your coaching staff. Hakstol gets a lot of grief for not delivering titles up there, but it's no accident he repeatedly has his teams in the tournament and in the thick of it. What the partisans around here fail to realize (assuming they're serious about half their jibes) is the random nature of the national tournament. Once you get to single elimination, a single off effort ends your season. Kudos to your coach for merely having your team play well enough long enough to make it this far.

Also, kudos to Lucia and his staff for taking a young team that was expected to finish 6th in the league and delivering a MacNaughton followed by a frozen four berth. I don't believe any Gopher fan expected this during the lengthy stretch of .500 hockey we endured midseason. There was certainly doubt after last week's result and the regional assignments that followed. Sandbagging aside, I didn't know what to expect today; the fact my team so thoroughly controlled much of the game and took home a W just leaves me happy beyond belief. They've gone further than I expected, so it's all gravy now. Hopefully, they toke home the hardware - but they have a very difficult game ahead of them just to get to the title game.
