Re: 2012 West Regional: North Dakota vs Western Michigan; Minnesota vs Boston Univers

Gophers average more goals per game, and average allowing less. Its also being played in Saint Paul. Gophers goal differential is +58. UND is +28.
They didn't play the same schedule (different non-conference slate of games plus the WCHA has an unbalanced schedule). Much of MN's goal differential came against the likes of Sacred Heart. MN's goal differential has plummeted since the first 2 months of the season and more accurately reflects how they are playing.
Oops. Momentum isnt a real thing.
Clearly you aren't watching the games. MN was up 3-0 on UND in their previous meeting and was in complete control. UND called timeout, scored a goal, and after that, it was ALL UND as MN completely melted down. Not real my ***.

But it is at least even money, and if you had to pick one team to be the favorite, its likely to be UMN.
I would say it's even money *at best* from a MN perspective. UND and Dell are in their heads. If MN gets stymied on their grade A chances yet again today, and UND converts their limited opportunities on the inevitable counterattacks, the game will once again be a rout.

Today's outcome will come down to Minnesota's defensive posture and Patterson. If they have the good sense to tie up sticks and not get outworked in front of their own net despite having numerical advantages down low, and if Patterson doesn't do his best impression of a sieve, then MN has a reasonable shot of advancing. However, if either the defense or the goaltending is sloppy, Minnesota is done. The way Dell is playing, I don't see the Gophers scoring more than three on him.

I'm praying you guys don't get Hockey East refs...

It'll be one of the crews that worked yesterday's games I imagine. So, we'll either get a loosely called game or a ridiculously tight one. The latter favors MN (better special teams), but the former is more entertaining as it actually allows the game to develop a bit of flow five-on-five.

3 weeks ago UND was hoping to get past the bubble, 5 lucky wins later they are a #1 seed, They are the underdog.

I can't take much more of this who is the underdog crap. Ask the neutral observers...this game is a toss up. There is no favorite. There are a lot of people on here who are simply afraid of losing to their biggest rival and want their team to come across as the underdog pregame in case their team happens to lose. Enough!

well, any team with Hakstool as coach, and Ben Blood as a player will be classless, but the number one seed is not an underdog, idiot.

There's been enough sandbagging in this thread to save Fargo for the next 250 years.

The more I think about it, I tend to agree with you. There probably is not an "underdog" in the game tonight. You have the WCHA Regular Season champs against the WCHA Tournament Champions. It's too bad that this had to be a regional final. Either way, one side will have a great night tonight, and the other will think about what could have been for the next few months. Hopefully it is a good game, and let the best team win. IF BC wins tonight like most think, I will cheer for whoever wins this game in Tampa.

That being said, I don't consider Minnesota our biggest rival, but tonight's game could change that :p:D:D

We're just sandbagging to save massive taxpayer expense in building a stupid diversion around that useless city in eastern ND.

I would have to look closer, but it seems that since the 2005 wcha FF, the two "best" wcha teams play each other in a regional. of course, some people will argue over who the best teams are.

FS23, surely you're kidding about minnesota not being und's biggest rival?

For me, no. I see Denver as North Dakota's current biggest rival. The two sides have played far more meaningful games over the past 8-9 years than North Dakota-Minnesota. Historically, North Dakota-Minnesota is probably bigger than North Dakota-DU, but it is extremely close.

I fully acknowledge that I am in the minority of my fanbase about this, but there is a growing contingent that feels this way, especially amongst diehards. In 5 years, it won't even be close...at least IMO.
