It was an assault rifle

which means each pull resulted in one bullet. not anything special like a machine gun. same deal with the swing of my hammer, one for one.

The SHES tragedy and it's aftermath has been terrible. The government needs to act to prevent further abuses. But wait.......the opponents of changes are a powerful lobby and several members of Congress are reportedly members. Obviously, nothing will change.

I can go down to the courthouse and file a $100,000,000 lawsuit against you. That doesn't mean I'm going to get it. That's neither the final judgment nor what an individual is likely to receive.

They shouldn't receive a GD penny. This school had what appears to be a top notch security system. The only thing they could have done to prevent this was have the National Guard posted at every entrance.

Just when you think you've heard every scummy thing about lawyers. . .

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

What I find troubling is that only one side of every issue has lobbyists. It isn't fair that whatever side I disagree with has lobbyists but the side I support never does. And lobbyists spend money to sway opinion but my side never does. Have you all noticed this too?

Every decision in Washington would be exactly what I wanted if there were no lobbyists.

This Pinsky is an idiot. He has been reprimanded, and his license has been suspended in the past. He's just after publicity. He'll get squashed, but who knows, he might get a couple of $3,000 rear-enders from the publicity.

Not sure if this is sarcasm...

But you're delusional if you don't think there aren't lobbyists on both sides of every issue.

"I'm shocked. . .shocked." Wouldn't it be nice if the reporting included those facts? You know, a little context.

I think what he was going for was evil "lobbyists" are out there opposing the will of the "peepul." Similarly, my "secial interests" aren't special at all. Again, just expressing the will of the "peepul." It's their "special interests" that are evil.

It was. Similar to the Carlin quote about drivers, it is amusing to me that they are only lobbyists if they are on the other side...people on here routinely ignore that there are lobbyists on all sides. Politicians ignore this too...when they can't get something done they blame lobbyists but never seem to mention there is an army of people out spending time and money on their pet issues too.

Gotcha. I was thinking it was, so I had to add the disclaimer to start the post.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Apparently there is a deal. Obama speaking shortly. Big news seems to be the AMT patch will cover people up to $400K (individual) and $450K (families). No one in the media (on either side) seems to like this deal and are calling on their favorite legislator to vote against it. People need to accept the fact that this is a COMPROMISE and suck it up. No one is going to get everything they want. Now maybe we can get a compromise on the budget as a whole...nah.

Edit: If the deal isn't done yet, stop talking to us and get back to work.

I can live with a deal that sets a 400K threshold for higher taxes. Not sure what cumulative effect of inflation has been over the past 12 years on a nominal level of 250K but I'm assuming its somewhere in the mid 300's so setting at 400 is a compromise I can live with. Payroll tax while worthwhile also needs to and will expire as I don't like messing with those dedicated taxes to fund entitlements. Estate tax rightfully being raised also. I haven't seen a $ amount on the revenues raised yet but it sounds significant.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Per NBC News, Republican aides say no vote tonight.

Sounds like the deal has legs, however. Probably finish it after the 3rd and make everything retroactive to January 1.
