People are getting way to hyped up over this in the post debate analysis. A decent debate with a lot of long winded talking points but I'm watching CNN and they're acting like its Kennedy-Nixon. Geesh, I thought they both stuck to the script, no annoying sighs, eye rolling or zingers and really nothing new. Obama needs to cut to the quick better and Romney needs to hope his plans do actually have the specifics he's alluded to. Beyond that if the standard was Romney not making a fool of himself on stage I personally wasn't expecting that to happen.

Funny, I thought the standard was Obama's the smartest guy in any room and the greatest orator and debater in all of history. Must have missed the memo.

I wish Obama had been more aggressive. There were several times when he pointed out that Romney was either totally reversing his story, or outright lying. I just wish he had drilled on it a bit more. Not enough to look like an ***, just to make his point.

Must be nice to be a Republican. All you have to do is lie and not believe in math and you can win a Presidential debate.

Ignore reality?

Romney wants to spend 5 trillion on a tax cut, 2 trillion on the military, and he wants poor people to use the emergency room for Health Care. How do we pay for that?

Don't care about Obama. Didn't even vote for him last time. Care about Romney lying like Reagan did about slashing taxes and spending money hand over fist on the military and not honestly trying to pay for it. Care about two wars that were not honestly paid for. Care about the Bush Tax Cut that wasn't honestly paid for. Care about Medicare Prescription benefits that weren't honestly paid for. When are the Republicans going to step up and pay for their stuff?

I'm sure he was warned not to come across as too much the fact checker since (1) that can be done after the debate, and (2) "low information voters" judge these things by how positive you are and whether they want to have a beer with you.

This. Saw one of the focus groups last night and their low point for Obama was when he attacked Mitt on the 5 trillion dollar tax cut. I honestly couldn't believe some of the people they pick for these focus groups.

Once again, thanks to all for proving I didn't need to actually watch the debate to know what happened. Of course, here's all I see on here:

Libstain: Obama was absolutely amazing, because we know what's best.
Knuckledragger: Romney had Obama shaking in his shoes.

Why watch a debate when I know I'm not going to vote for either of those clowns?

Romney clearly performed better in the debate and actually looked a lot of the Romney I saw and supported when he ran for senate / governor in Mass and not so much like the Romney that I saw and disliked running for the Republican primary. Will it make any difference? I'm not sure... Obama is historically a good debater and I would be surprised to see another performance like that in the next two debates.

factcheck.org pretty much tore both of them apart as far as the accuracy of their claims.

You're on to something with the post debate analysis. Is it really necessary to have Carly Fiorina and some guy who used to work for Obama analyzing the debate?

Obama did let some counterpunches pass. Why? Could be he was trying to be a nice guy, or he thought a wonky policy discussion was the best way to go. Either way I am amused by the spin coming out of this, like Mittens is suddenly going to rocket to a Reagan in '84 type romp. Look, a guy who's been giving presentations all his life spoke clearly and hit his talking points. Not sure where the game changer is in all that.

However, yes Obama needs to be more energetic and forceful in his next debates. I'd also like to see Romney's new tax plan...

I'm guessing it was one of the mainstream networks that just HAD to have the first female Fortune 500 CEO doing commentary, regardless of what her stance is.

Watching Chrissie's spittle flecked red faced rant was a treat. Should have been on pay per view. He looked like he was about to soil himself. MSNBC has so much invested emotionally in dragging him across the finish line, some of them will require medical assistance.

I looked around for articles claiming even a draw, let alone an Obama win. The closest I came was a piece on RCP headlined: "It wasn't as bad as it looked."

My favorite? "Romney hands Obama his lunch. And not a nutritious school lunch, either"

Many MSM types, especially the ones on MSNBC, seem to have bought the Obama reputation lock, stock and barrel (smartest guy in any room, brilliant debater, etc) and were utterly stunned when he let them down personally, by getting his butt kicked.

I think there will be at least a brief pause in the "inevitability" argument.

Maybe next time, instead of finding time for "The Pimp With a Limp," Obama will be able to squeeze in some, you know, debate prep (assuming the ladies on "The View" allow it).

Romney's best line? "I've been in business for 25 years, and I don't know what you're talking about."
