2012 Poster Cruise....

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

another bump.

We are now 9 1/2 months from the Frozen Four, and this cruise. I just checked the price, and it has not started to go up, yet.

Do note- you can make a reservation, make a deposit, and still get all of your money back. The final payment isn't due until 90 days prior to the cruise.

I've talked to my "agent" at Royal Caribbean, and he's quite happy to do the reservations for you, so if you are interested, please shoot me a note at alfablue(dot)uscho(at)gmail(dot)com.

I know we won't be finding out who got FF tickets for Tampa until next month, but I suspect that anyone who applies will get them. This is to turn the vacation into a full week of time off by leaving Tampa on Saturday and returning on Thursday morning.

Again, nothing in it for me- I'm just inviting people on this trip. :)

edit- there were some questions about when to commit, or a time frame. Being blunt- there is NO time committment or time when you have to say you are going to do it. None. If you can book this cruise the weekend before, it can be added to the group. Just shoot me a note, and I can make sure that all of our reservations are connected together.

One note- if you do book the cuise early, and the price goes down prior to 90 days before- you do get that credit.

I do understand that we are still a LONG way from this trip- this friendly reminder is more to let you think about it, and IF (entirely up to you) you are interested, you can save the funds, and THEN book. Please don't feel obligated, nor stretch yourself beyond your means. This is supposed to be a fun addition to the Frozen Four vacation.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

Since the ticket allocations are starting to come in, just thought I'd bump this to offer a way to extend the FF vacation to an entire week.

Start this part of the trips on Saturday, ends on Thursday, well before the first game.

No pressure- right now, we'll fall pretty short of getting a group discount, but it would be fun to share the trip. Mrs Alfa and I are going, for sure.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

A bump since the season starts soon, season tickets are being sold by schools, FF tickets for Tampa have been awarded, and perhaps schedules are starting to work out.

So far, I know for sure that my wife and I, as well as my parents will be there.

2 other couples have expressed quite a bit of interest, and a few, passing interest.

If you are interested, e-mail me at alfablue (dot) uscho (at) gmail (dot) com

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

Just got back from another cruise so I figured a bump is in order.

We had a great time on the Allure of the Seas, has some incredible food, and loved all of the typical cruising things.

Anyway, if you have questions, shoot me an e-mail.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

So... we just put deposit down for the cruise. :)

Any one else going to pony up?

Sweet. I'll shoot you an e-mail of our reservation number- so we can all sit together. So far its you, us, and my parents that have rooms and deposits in.

I am working on convincing bf to go with me. He keeps saying he's unsure of his schedule. :(

I am 85% likely...I just need to find a roommate (be that bf or someone else).

Alfablue was kind enough to remind me about the cruise when I saw him at Yost last night.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

Here's hoping that both of you can come, and more think about it, too.

It makes the frozen four a week of vacation, for those of you wondering. Cruise starts Saturday and ends the Thursday the FF begins. And the port, major hotels, and arena are all next to each other. So if you can make it to the port, getting to most downtown hotels will be easy.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

It's been almost 2 months since I bumped this thread- just a reminder if you are planning on going to Tampa that there's a nice cruise that makes the FF a whole week vacation. And if your team is already not looking like it will make it (like mine, for instance), you can spend the week drinking like a fish and not having to drive anywhere.

Again, here's the cruise- http://www.royalcaribbean.com/finda...&state=&packageCode=JW05W010&sailDate=1120331

5 nights out of Tampa, starting Saturday, March 31, and ending on Thursday, April 5. The dock is within walking distance of the St. Pete arena, and there are a ton of hotels very close to the area.

we have a few other posters who look like they will be coming, and if you want to join us eating, shoot me an e-mail at alfablue(dot)uscho(at)gmail(dot)com
If we get a large enough group, there's a minor discount, but I don't see that happening...

And if you want to come, and not join us, that's great, too- just contact Royal Caribbean or your favorite travel agent.

It would be cool to have a handful of hockey jersies on Caribbean night for dinner.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

Pre-Christmas bump.

Again, if you plan on going, shoot me a note- so that we can all have dinner together.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

New Year's bump.

That, and I have heard that there has been some discounts for cruises recently. Although, it looks like this specific cruise hasn't gone down in price, if you are considering going, keep an eye on the main cruise- http://www.royalcaribbean.com/finda...ageCode=JW05W010&date=201202&sailDate=1120331

That, and I see constant discounts at cruise.com, and delta cruises. So it may be a good time to talk to your travel agent, or do some searching.

It would be great to meet you on the ship prior to the Frozen Four!

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

A little off-topic, but is anyone organizing a Posters' Game this year?

Outside of early discussions on where to put your equipment while on the ship, I'm not aware of any game discussions.... Since nobody is from the area, I'm not sure if anyone has looked into it.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

Anyway, about the cruise. If you are going, and want to join us for dinners, we will need to connect reservations. So shoot me a note at alfablue(dot)uscho(at)gmail(dot)com

We are doing the later seating (8:30, I think) so that we can take our time to get ready after being on shore. Sure, it's late. But it's vacation. :)

There are plenty of cabins available, looking on line for reservations- I found a bunch of interior, exterior, and balcony rooms that are not booked. 74 days and counting. There's a good chance that as we get past the last day to cancel (which I can't recall), if there are still a bunch of cabins left, the prices will come down again. Plus, since there is two weeks between the regionals to the finals, that's plenty of time for a last second reservation.

Anyway, I doubt that we will get enough to get a cabin for free....

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

We're doing the open seating thing but, I'm guessing it wouldn't be a problem to try to sit together, right?

We may be doing the dinner with wine pairings on the Saturday. We'll know more after this weekend.

Can. Not. Wait!

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

6 weeks from embarcation.

I keep checking on prices to see if they've come down, and it appears that the balcony prices have a little recently, but the cheapest interior cabins have not.

And I'll post the closer we get, as a reminder. It very much looks like it's only a few of us who are going on the pre-tournament cruise. But if there are a lot of rooms left 4 weeks out, prices to tend to go down.

My and cruise info are posted a few times before this.

Re: 2012 Poster Cruise....

A little off-topic, but is anyone organizing a Posters' Game this year?
Timely question deserving an answer.

Outside of early discussions on where to put your equipment while on the ship, I'm not aware of any game discussions.... Since nobody is from the area, I'm not sure if anyone has looked into it.
To the best of my knowledge, alfablue is correct: no one has looked into it. Several points should be made:

1. At both Yost (2010) and Augsburg (2011), most players participating in the Posters' Game have driven themselves and their equipment to the FF. Since airline baggage fees became commonplace, very few of those needing to fly have been willing to pay the fees required to get their gear to the tournament. That's not intended as a criticism of anyone, it's simply the fact of the matter. The vast of majority of those who have played in our game over the years will need to fly to Tampa, if attending at all. So my ongoing opinion has been that attracting a sufficient number of players for a Posters' Game in Tampa isn't doable. I've presumed that others share that view.

2. A year ago or so, Larch generously offered to assist in setting up a Tampa game, but was reluctant to take the lead. Again it's more of a presumption than something we really nailed down, but I'm guessing he also saw the recruiting task as very formidable, and was hoping someone else would take on that duty. In other words, if someone else lined up the players, he'd help choose a rink and host. Great offer, but it's moot if we don't have the players.

3. We're about 6 weeks away from the FF, so if anyone thinks they can pull off a Tampa game, there is time to make a run at it. For my part, I'd support and help organize a Tampa Posters' Game thread -- at the very least. But unless there's an entrepreneur out there, we're taking the year off.

4. I know there aren't that many people involved, but in some small ways, the cruise takes the place of the game in 2012. At least the cruise conversation has helped keep some us in contact with one another.

5. I'm planning to initiate the thread for the 2013 Posters' Game in Pittsburgh, and take the lead if that proves to be appropriate. Having a local leader is preferable, but I'm familiar enough with Pittsburgh to do what's necessary.

All of that is just one person's viewpoint; I'd be glad to be surprised. But if there's any significant deviation from the above list, I would indeed be surprised!
