2012 NFL Season: 15 Yard Penalty For Playing Football (c)

Re: 2012 NFL Season: 15 Yard Penalty For Playing Football (c)

Liked both Doritos commercials (goat and princess party), and the Oreo one, and the astronaut babies.

Didn't like Beyonce, but that's because it's not my type of music rather than because I thought she performed badly.

Finally was able to watch the Dodge Farmer commercial.

Hell yes. It was excellent, and 100% true. If you haven't lived it, I wouldn't expect you to understand. Farmboy Proud.

But does it make you want to go buy a Dodge over an F150?

I'll be buying a Ram, probably within the next 2 weeks. That would have happened regardless of the commercial. A commercial like that is likely to get Dodge in an advantage among farmers, though. I think alot of farmers feel unappreciated these days, and getting a shout out from Dodge is likely to sit very well with many of them. On the other hand, for many, it probably isn't enough to overcome brand loyalty and the stigma Dodge still has from ****ty past product, but I would guess it would sway some.

I thought the Farmer one would have been better if it were shorter. After a bit, I was mentally screaming "GET TO THE *ING POINT!" It just tried too hard.

When was the last time you stopped plowing and splinted the broken leg of a meadowlark? :p

Sheesh that was a schmaltzy speech, even by Paul Harvey standards.

bbdl, what I'm talking about is the way the ad is made. I'm not saying anything about the work farmers do. I'm from a city in Indiana who's two biggest products were hogs and soybeans (that and the State Mental Hospital ), and know how hard the work is. But that ad is fake Hollywood nostalgia. The tractor is an old Case from the 40s, the house (maybe it was a church) is alone on the High Plains with weathered siding, the men are dressed like the Marlboro Man.

You say "If you haven't lived it you wouldn't understand." But you have lived it, and you know if they wanted to do a real ad they'd have the tractors with good climate control in the cab, GPS, etc.; the houses would have a DirecTV dish on the roof; and the farmers would still be in jeans and boots, but with a hoodie, and thermal gloves.

Anyway, if you liked it, then you liked it; I'm not telling you you can't. For me it's Steven Spielberg's idea of a farmers life, and my guess is he hasn't spent a whole lot of time detasseling.

What town may I ask? I am originally from Decatur which is the site of a soybean processing facility (mostly oils/lecithins and some meal) owned by Bunge (used to be Central Soya). Has something like a 15-20 million bushel capacity though they have found ways to squeeze in more back in the day. I actually worked for an independent grain inspector that inspected and graded every truck of soybeans, wheat or corn that came through the place and also graded every railcar of corn or wheat they shipped out. Depending on where you are from there is a good chance that crops grown in the area came to this facilitiy. We had trucks from southern Michigan, all over northern and central Indiana and northwest and west central Ohio coming in. Some drivers just spent their entire day driving back and forth from southern Michigan (probably 1-1.5 hours away) all day just trying to get as many loads in as they could.

I agree with all of that, to a certain point. It was too Hollywood, but what else do you expect? For the tractor, they showed some new Case IH tractors and a combine (**** Case IH, by the way), and there was one old Case that I remember. I didn't notice the dress of the farmers, and I think that depends on the specific region and the age of the farmer. If you go out into farm country and you see old farmers, they're going to dress like that, no hoodies. Young farmers, you're right.

I think the details needed to be off like they were to connect with/captivate the regular, non-farmer viewer. I'm willing to forgive them using an idealistic view of agriculture, as opposed to a more realistic one, because the point/moral of the ad still rings true.

Sure, I can see that. (When I was grumping about it, my wife goes, "It's an ad, man!")

I'm from Logansport, so not that far away. How about that! Yeah, I'd have to think the soybeans from our county ended up with you. And your town's hogs would've ended up with us, at Wilsons Foods (now Tysons).

Rams punter Johnny Hekker just called out Chris Kluwe for a Pokemon battle on Reddit. This needs to happen.

Wait, hold on, the Cowboys gave Romo HOW MUCH MONEY? I'll say this for the Raiders, at least they EVENTUALLY came to grips with the fact that JaMarcus Russell is crap. The Cowboys seem to be too stubborn to do the same.

The Cowboys can give him whatever they want, so long as he remains the starting QB...:D

For a 33 year old Romo nonetheless (not that a younger one was any good).

Revis Island is coming to Tampa pending a physical! Twitter says it is for 3 picks, including Tampa's 1st this year (13th overall).

Tebow will be moved to corner to replace Revis. The Jets really like how he can keep the ball away from receivers.

Tampa wins this one. Because we all know what the Jets do with draft picks...
