2012 NCAA Tournament: Division I Bracketology

I also should note: if Northeastern loses to Providence, Harvard would win the comparison against Northeastern, so that's not necessarily a bad outcome.

SLU could also conceivably be judged to win the comparison against Northeastern as well and beat out Northeastern for an at-large, though BC would have to win Hockey East for that to happen.

With the Huskies loss to Providence, they need SLU and BU to lose this afternoon to get in. This according to two very teary-eyed NU players.

Exciting!

Can't myself (former, 'Indian'...) see name change issue (UND) being at all brought into this matter.

At this point in time, RMU is beating Mercyhurst, SLU is ahead of Cornell, BU is beating BC, PC beat NU, this could be a very interesting conversation come tomorrow.

Indeed, especially nice this year as a fan of one of the teams who are on the outside looking in.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Division I Bracketology

So BU wins 5-2 over BC - is NU out?

No? Only if SLU and UMD take their tournaments.

Somehow UND just skyrocketed their RPI putting us in a tie with them putting is un a very precarious position. And Harvard took a .0001 advantage in RPI.

What happened is UND won the comparison with Mercyhurst. Nothing to do with RPI.

Also I think the UND/BU comparison is different from how committee will evaluate it.

If UMD loses tonight, Harvard wins the comparison with UMD and I think Northeastern ends behind Harvard in the overall ranking too. It's looking quite grim for Northeastern. (EDIT: oops I forgot that SLU will pass Harvard with the win over Cornell)

I think it's really more about whether UND or UMD get the last spot at this point (barring the Cornell miracle Digit's hoping for. UPDATE: no miracle)

Rooting for UMD tonight. 4 out of 5 "upsets" completed so far.

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Division I Bracketology

Will they get a rematch next weekend though?

Probably (1) Wisconsin, (2) Cornell. Send BU/Providence to Wisconsin and SLU to Cornell? It's hard to tell at this point. Or could be that BU gets sent to Cornell, since BU/SLU are quite close, if BU wins.

The unfortunate downside of playing PC in the championship game as opposed to NU. A win over NU would've been a lot more helpful in terms of moving up the PWR and getting better seeding. Probably getting way ahead of myself though, PC will be a tough team to beat tmrw.

I don't think so... which comparisons would flip because BU beats Northeastern instead of Providence? I don't see any. BU had a pretty large gap in RPI to make up with the rest of the pack. A .0200 RPI difference is like two games in the standings.

To be honest, I don't really know how all the PWR seeding stuff works, haha. I just assumed cause NU was a TUC and PC wasn't But hey, in that case, I take back what I said about not playing NU.:D

Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Division I Bracketology

Dave??
Does a Minny win tonight move them past Cornell and/or the Badgers? How does BC lose and continue to be at 4 actually moving up from earlier today?

How do things look assuming a Minny win and a BU win?

Wisconsin is definitely top seed. I think Minnesota moves up to No. 2 with a win today. I'll double-check that, usually a win can make up a .0050 difference in RPI.

Did you notice that Mercyhurst, Northeastern, and North Dakota (yesterday) all lost too? Really the race for home ice was quite sad. Seems like no one wanted it.

That said, I think Mercyhurst gets home ice, not BC. It usually comes down to the head-to-head comparison rather than the RPI as the tiebreak, and Mercyhurst takes that.

Also should note, I think UMD will skyrocket up the PWR with a win. A lot of comparisons flip if UMD's RPI improves.
