Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Either you are unaware of context or are ignoring it.

I exercised no logic (none was called for, there was merely observation, not evaluation) and never discussed "should." In fact, my comment was merely a factual observation on the absence of "should:" The question was, "should" the insurance plan cover non-prescription birth control pllls, and Ms Fluke's only proffered answer was "because the are expensive."

I suggested that rationale alone was insufficient, and even stated that there are several good reasons a person could advance as to why they "should" be covered.

Of course insurance plans "should" cover unexpected, unplanned, illnesses and injuries, that is the essence of what insurance is for. There is a very compelling "should" attached: "if this were to happen to you or your child, would you want it covered?"

See, you are now providing a "should" upon which people can have a conversation. If I understand your reasoning, a healthy sexual appetite is just as important to human well-being as food and water, and so the insurance plan should cover non-prescription birth controls to reduce potential future claims costs that otherwise might occur as a result of this sexual activity. That's reasonable.
As far as I am aware there is no such thing as a non-prescription birth control pill. (Plan B is not contraception as in prevention but a reaction and is not available to all ages). The last part was sarcastic. Sorry I didn't put enough:p in there.

I know, sorry, I have to amend my post. There are non-medical prescription birth control and medical prescription birth control (i.e., where birth control pills are prescribed not primarilly for contraception but for the side effects which in these cases are desirable. I've read that Ms Fluke's plan does cover the latter and not the former).

Everyone pays a little bit more, everyone does not get those services. Post-menopausal women? nope. Men? nope. women who are not sexually active? nope.
Of course they do. Post-menopausal women, men, and sexually inactive women get their prescription medications covered.

Let's use an analogy. If a dog bites someone in the face, many insurance companies will cover cosmetic surgery to make that face "normal" again. Aging changes the appearance of a face. Suppose I say elective plastic surgery should be covered by insurance too, and the only reason I give is that it is expensive. How do you respond?
Here is how I respond:

All insurance that covers cosmetic surgery should cover the cosmetic surgery that you want to get. Just as all insurance that covers prescription medication should cover the medication that her doctor has prescribed for her.

It seems almost ridiculously simple and obvious to me.

that's how insurance works genius. If insurance only covered the services every single person uses then it would be pretty useless.

One thing we need to do is prosecute to the full extent of the law whenever we catch someone using words that are considered offensive by others. If conservatives get away with using language the rest of us don't agree with, what's next? We need to come down hard and fast on anyone using offensive words. Lock 'em up.

It's already been discussed that there is a good possibility for a slander case. This is different than saying things about Sarah Palin. I know the GOP doesn't like to hear that but this woman isn't a celebrity.

slander [ˈslɑːndə] noun

Law
defamation in some transient form, as by spoken words, gestures, etc.
a slanderous statement, etc.
…any false or defamatory words spoken about a person; calumny

Somehow, I think Rush is safe, if for no other reason than the fact that Ms. Fluke basically admitted to her own "want of chastity," so when Rush says it, he's not doing so "falsely."

Forget the slander suit. We need a full on State of Florida prosecution (see link above). After all, now nearly everyone in the country thinks this Fluke girl is a slut and a prostitute. The slander suit will have to wait.

Oh? When did she do this? Mind providing a quote?

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

So men get viagara covered, but women's don't get birth control? How's that fair?

Honestly, birth control should be covered and Viagara shouldn't. I view Viagara like plastic surgery. Totally unnecessary and NOT what insurance should be about.

One fifth think interracial marriage should be illegal.

Q24 Do you think that interracial marriage should be
legal or illegal?
Legal............................................................... 67%
Illegal .............................................................. 21%
Not sure .......................................................... 12%

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Oh man. Alabama is awesome

Q22. Do you think Barack Obama is a Christian, a Muslim or are you not sure?

Christian: 14%
Muslim: 45%
Not sure 41%

Q23. Do you believe in Evolution
Yes: 26%
No: 60%
Not sure: 13%

Mississippi has 52/66/29 for the moron answers, showing they have realer Americans than Alabama!

That's a win imho - I would have pegged them for 40%.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I suppose it's just a coincidence that Alabama and Mississippi are ranked so high in education...

You should listen to sports talk there, or go to a barber shop. They have one sport, college football. They call in two hours ahead to get their spot to talk... football. and no da** yankee is going to tell them what to believe. I say this as a long time alabama property owner. Also alabama really looks down on mississippi. I used to live there too.
If you want a real experience go into a gun shop, but definitely know something about guns first.

You can see that a few of the respondents in Alabama had a lot of fun with the pollster.

3% said they were "very liberal" when asked. Of those 3%, 61% say Obama is a Muslim (the highest of any demographic) as opposed to those that self-identify as "somewhat liberal" where 83% identify him correctly as Christian. When interracial marriage was the topic, the split was 49/42 on whether it should be legal, as opposed to those somewhat liberal voters who answered at a 92% clip that it should be legal, with 8% not sure. Amazingly, not a single person in the "somewhat liberal" category said it should be illegal.

Probably the most depressing numbers from that poll show 62% of the Alabama 18-45 voters disbelieve evolution and 20% still say interracial marriage should be against the law.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I read somewhere that the people who say they think Obama is a Muslim don't actually believe that, but if they don't care for him they use that label as a way of expressing their disapproval. These polls should ask a control question, something along the lines of "do you believe Obama was born on Mars". When 30% say yes, you can get a good idea of what you're dealing with.

Agreed.

But WHY don't people care for Obama? Because he's a Muslim... ;)

Aren't Mississippi and Alabama about 30% black? That means unless southern blacks have suddenly become anti-Obama and anti-miscegenation*, the percentage of whites giving the derp answers to Q22 and Q24 are about 50% higher.

(Q23 in unaffected, since fundy ignorance of science is color-blind)

* given the white people they see everyday, I would not blame them
