2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

Obviously I don't think Romney has a snowball's chance of coming within sniffing distance of winning the general election. He just doesn't have a strength, Obama's even got him beat "in the case of a terrorist attack", IMO.
But based on very limited exposure (I haven't really been paying attention), I'm impressed with the agility Romney has shown in throwing counterpunches. Obama went after his wife for not having a day job, he was taken down a peg for hating on women. Obama went after him for disrespecting a dog, he was called out for eating dogs. etc.
Other Republican candidates of the last 20 years or so have always stood around and absorbed the charges, whether true or false, for a few weeks before deciding if they wanted to retaliate. This is different. Or else Obama has just picked terrible battles so far.

I respect your commentary generally but this has as many untruths as a MinnFan post.

First, Obama's campaign had nothing to do with some commentator's comments about Romney's wife. Either you didn't know that or you're lying. I'll let you tell us which one it is.

Next, what planet are you on about Republicans not counterpunching? All Republicans are good at over the last 20 years is campaigning as their track record governing the country (Gingrich, Lott, Bush II, DeLay, The Boner, McConnell) has been disasterous. Somebody already brought up the 2004 campaign, but even in 2008 McCain tried to deflect charges of his idiotic support of the Iraq war by tying Obama to some fundraiser from 15 years earlier who used to be a radical 60's hippie peacenik type. While I think most current day Republicans tend to be idiots with few exceptions (Snowe, Collins, Graham, Christie, Lugar, etc) one thing they usually know how to do is run a good race.

I'm kind of looking for how Romney will respond to Barack's "I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth."

Wasn't it Ann Richards talking about GHWB and how he was born with a silver foot in his mouth?

Indeed, from Wikipedia:

Richards's keynote address to the 1988 Democratic National Convention put her in the national spotlight. The speech was highly critical of the Reagan Administration and then-Vice President George H. W. Bush. Her address was notable for including several humorous remarks displaying her down-home Texas charm[citation needed] such as: ""I'm delighted to be here with you this evening, because after listening to George Bush all these years, I figured you needed to know what a real Texas accent sounds like" or "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth,"

I probably shouldn't use "Obama" as a stand-in for "the Obama campaign". But don't tell me the Ann Romney comments were not ill-advised talking points handed down from the campaign, I don't buy it. Today Obama himself is running around talking about silver spoons.
It's interesting that you perceive McCain and the repubs as being effective campaigners. There's another side to that story. If they were able to articulate and govern by basic conservative principles, the Democrat party would never win another election. If McCain had been able to show how Obummer was groomed into power by a terrorist that makes Tim McVeigh look like a mischievous neighbor boy, he wouldn't have won a single state (maybe Minnesota). I heard all about it on Rush.
So perceptions vary.

Buy what you'd like, but there's no way the Obama campaign wants to start a campaign against Ann Romney. It makes no sense, any more than Romney's campaign would want Limbaugh to go after another private citizen by calling her a slut. Your take on this is ridiculous.

Ummm....okay....could you please try to work alien mind control into your theory next time? It makes it a lot more interesting.

Sorry you can't keep up but it doesn't mean I'll just let you smear me. Just becasue you don't agree with the facts or what has been proven historically doesn't mean its wrong. I just means you live with your head up a certain orifice.

Just because a conservative web site, think tank or newspaper states something doesnt make it a fact...just saying ;)

I fully realize that, but it doesn't make it wrong either. When the major media organizations refuse to follow certain stories you are often forced to use sources that have a political tilt. I am skeptical of items in the New York Times due to its political leanings, but I don't automatically discount them.

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

This is kind of like watching a boxing match in which I don't really care who wins......

If Romney can refrain from responding to Obama's attacks and merely be Johnny One-Note, he might have a puncher's chance, as they say....

From any news story reporting his (Romney's) speech yesterday:

"Even if you like Barack Obama, we can't afford Barack Obama," Mr. Romney said. "He has failed by the measurements he set. You're not going to hear it at his convention, but you're going to hear it at ours."

"He's over his head and he's swimming in the wrong direction," Mr. Romney said of the president. "We're a trusting people. We're a hopeful people. But we're not dumb."

This seems like a clever tactic (though what do I know, right? ;))....since people like Obama, don't attack him, merely say "he's a nice guy in over his head."

Of course Romney's surrogates will be vicious, no surprises there, yet Romney himself will try to remain serenely above the fray.

Obama may be forced to change tactics, not sure how much people will want to be on the receiving end of his dour doom and gloom message. It is atypical for the sitting President personally to be so "mean-spirited" this early in the campaign. Almost always an incumbent President up for re-election uses surrogates to go on the attack for him while he himself projects an image of competency, until about October. Only when October arrives does an incumbent President then typically say "well, I've been busy running the country until now, and I notice by the calendar that there's an election next month. I guess I need to say a few things about that" and only then unleash the personal venom.

You can stop sobbing now. I just picked the name of the first knuckledragger I could think of. Nothing personal. ;)

PS - The day you come up with something that I can't keep up with is the same day Sarah Palin is elected President with Rush Limbaugh as her VP.

maybe I should put this query in the "global warming" thread, but whatever happened to The Prophet Albert Gore junior? Is he still alive?

Since he turned out to be right, that's probably a bad line for you to go down. :D

Isn't he running that cable TV network that just fired Olbermann?

I thought in the Gospel according to Albert Gore junior, the apocalypse came in 2004/2005 when the Hockey Stick of Fire and Death rose up from the Mother Earth and smote us with melting ice and whatnot? Hasn't that been debunked since the "new ice age" thing came back into vogue?

He's busy sucking up huge amounts of electricity in his Tennessee mansion. Really, the less we see of him or hear from him, the better, eh?

I suppose. All this talk about elections made me wonder if he was still around and sulking about the hockey stick theory failing him and his book sales.

Hey, he got a Nobel Prize and huge piles of money from the whole thing, so I don't feel to sorry for him that his predictions didn't pan out so well. He cashed in very nicely.

Hey I give you righties credit. Usually you're stuck in 1980. Looks like now you're only stuck in 2000!

yeah, along with Independent Democrat Joe Lieberman, another rightie, eh? ;)

for those too young to vote in 2000 or those with short memories, Lieberman was Gore's Vice-Presidential running mate. A liberal on social issues, he nonetheless was expelled from the Democratic Party for the heresy of supporting the surge in Iraq, yet continues to caucus with the Democrats anyway and on every issue except national defense, continues to vote their party line. Despite his expulsion from the Democratic party, he won re-election to the Senate in 2006 and is not seeking re-election this year after 18 years, or three terms, in the Senate. He also is devoutly religious and has never been involved in a scandal to my knowledge.

Now, if Lieberman is a "rightie" then the whole country is decidely lop-sided!!
