Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

I'm wondering how many more accusations it will take before conservatives give up the ghost on this guy. Maybe when the tally approaches double digits? I notice huskyfan has been pretty silent. Not sure if sexual harassment is the same as discrimination against a specific religion in her book.

house guests for the last five days, two hockey games, and a bunch of other stuff. plus keeping up with the Penn State scandal. I just can't be everywhere at once. :p;):)

was hoping we might hear some solid evidence on this case. so far, it looks to me as if Herman Cain is in the classic "he said, she said" situation. that could change. from a political standpoint, Cain's handling of the situation has been less than stellar.

I'm awfully old school on this sexual harassment stuff. dirty jokes, comments, brushing up against, that minor stuff didn't bother me. I dealt with alot of it in my day - usually just told the ^ss to f'off, didn't want to hear it, walked away whatever. I'm a big girl. physical stuff, or having your job threatened - that's a good deal different.

So making your job a living hell is OK, just don't threaten to take it away.

Pffft. The latest to come forward didn't even have a job - she was trying to get him to help her get one. She had it coming! :p

You don't get away with stuff like this anymore since Clinton. The Republicans made such a huge deal out of that so now this is the process we go through. Right or wrong, no one with these kinds of accusations out there is going to be elected President. Cain is done.

The burden of proof lies with the accusers. Maybe Cain will retain support among a new group of voters: Clinton Republicans. :D

For a moment, I thought you said "Dildo" and was about to ask you why you capitalized it and called it rare. :p

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

No real interesting races to speak of today.

There's a state senate special election in Iowa where, if the GOP candidate wins, the state senate will split 25-25 and a whole host of bad social legislation will make its way through (the GOP controls the house and the governorship). Doesn't sound like that will happen, but who knows given the bad weather.

The 2 governorships up today should both be won by the incumbant party (R in MS, D in KY).

The big 2 events seem to be Ohio's referendum on their own version of Wisconsin's union-busting law, which looks like it will fail (ie the voters vote against the law), and Mississippi's personhood amendment, which is likely to pass, though the polls have closed considerably from +18 to +1 in the last 2 months.

Happy I don't have to be on campus tonight. I imagine it will be quite the security theater, even though that part of Oakland County is pretty safe territory for Republicans.

Interesting -- I'd have thought it would pass by 80 points. I assume we'll see similar evangelical dog whistle ballot measures for 2012 in swing states to help the GOP GOTV. I wonder if "One Man, One Woman" has one more cynical life left in it?

Its a great issue for Mississippi. Its a disaster in a swing state. Can you picture The Mittster being asked on the stump where he stands on this issue?

Apparently the law of unintended consequences has had a strong effect. The potential banning of in vitro fertilization and the potential criminalization of miscarriages has the Catholics and Episcipalians, two strong anti-abortion contingents, either sitting this one out or even being against it.

Romney's already floated his support for it on a national scale.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Here in Maine we see how desperate the people are for the prospect of jobs. Questions 2 and 3 are both probably going to pass, which would mean the authorized number of casinos in Maine would go from two to five. I don't see how the population of Maine can possibly support FIVE casinos.

The other big issue is same-day registration. We've had same-day registration for longer than I've been alive, but the Republicans want to restrict it so the evil college kids don't cast votes. My gut tells me this will be a close vote but should fail in the end.

Locally we are electing two members to the Board of Selectmen. Two incumbents are running against an unknown. One incumbent should win easily. The other will probably win easily despite the fact that he has 2 DUIs and lost his license. He also has been arrested in bars because he gets drunk and gets in fights. He has resigned at a Board meeting at least once, but retracted his resignation because he got so much response from citizens to stay on (supposedly). Why he keeps getting elected is beyond me.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Two ways you know your state/city/local politicians are clueless. 1) when they try to balance the budget by jacking fines for parking violations through the roof. 2) When they embrace casino gambling as a cost free solution to budget problems. Where exactly are these casinos going in Maine? I didn't know moose liked to gamble, or that they had any disposable income.

You left out jacking up hotel/motel taxes so visitors get to pay for their failures.
