I didn't mean "sneak in" as derogatory, SCSU absolutely deserves to be a playoff team if they win out, but the numbers weren't looking like they'd fall in their favor. Now it looks much more likely that the numbers will fall in SCSU's favor, and will work against Pitt State, who is ranked #6 in national human polls and who's only loss is to regional #1 NW Mo St. at Arrowhead Stadium.
NSIC scheduling frustrates many, particularly because there are no Non-Conference games. It would be nice if they could protect some rivalries also, like SCSU-Mankato. From what I can tell, since Sioux Falls and Minot State were officially added in 2012 to make a 16 team conference the scheduling goes as follows:
Play all teams in your division, play four from the other division. The division are broken down in what seems to be permanent groups of four, which are (The names of the groups are my names, they don't have official names):
North 1: UMD, Northern, Mary, Crookston
12-12
Played
South 1: Mankato, Upper Iowa, Sioux Falls, Wayne
and
North 2: St. Cloud, Bemidji, Moorhead, Minot
Played
South 2: Winona, Concordia, Augustana, Southwest
The inter-divisional groups will switch back and forth every year, so next season North 1 will play South 2 and North 2 will play South 1.
