2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!

Re: 2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!

Gorram Mayans!!!

Looked to me like the Mavs were not making the plays they needed to make. Passes just off a bit, some arm tackling attempts. Looked a little like they thought Valdosta wouldn't be coming to play to me.
I think for the first time all year they were out coached. Valdosta made adjustments after the first, and we didn't make good enough adjustments to suffice. Tried forcing Wolf outside all day and they were gobbling it up. Plus a few little things like missed PAT and FG and it gets ugly quick.

Yep.

Been seeming alot of Valdosta fans still trying to find hotel rooms down there. If you know anybody that might have made a reservation and now isn't going, they would love it if you would cancel that reservation now.

Cheer up Mankato fans. You got beat by the champs. Valdosta State rolled to a fairly easy win today 35-7. nowhere near the nailbiter that a lot of the D2 NC games have come down to. Those kind of games takes years off of lives on both sides!

Bob Nielson leaves UMD for the Western Illinois job. Wonder who fills his very large shoes with the Bulldogs?

That is a great question. It is made more interesting by the fact that UMD has to replace its AD. I'm glad we will no longer have someone doing both jobs. They are already very demanding jobs and I cannot imagine doing them at the same time.

Although, I must admit, it's probably easier at a D2 school than a DI school.

Only because there's a few less other sports and coaches to keep happy. I am kind of surprized that Bob is leaving Duluth. Thought he was wanting to stay in administration instead of coaching. Western Illinois must have made him one hell of an offer.

Re: 2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!

Time to necro this thread.

Being in O-HI-O, ODU is probably attracting D1 flunkie transfers by now. I remember when Tech reamed them their first couple of years in the GLIAC. If they're smart, I'm sure they've been picking up the second-string scraps from Cincy, Akron, Bowling Green, etc. and turning them into D2 stars. The gap between D1-FBS/FCS and D2 is big, and for a team like ODU that is in a major metro area, the recruiting is easy. Tech is lucky to pick up 1-2 transfers from Central every third year.

Disappointed in the loss to Findlay today, even if it was on the road. Note to our current SID: this is what happens when you trumpet the "nation-leading" defense, two games into the season.

Actually, I just looked at their roster here. Not really a whole lot of transfers there it looks like. Looked like about 4 kids that I saw from Toledo, BG, Butler, and a Cali JC I believe. If anything, I think they might go after the private school kids a little more. Seems like they take their religion a little seriously there. They were really pimping out that Mass After the Game deal they was having. Not sure if that's an every game deal for em, or just something special for their homecoming. Either way, I think it had a lot to do with the outcome of the score with GVSU today. 57-14 ODU. ODU looked like the Old GVSU. and GVSU looked like the old Mercyhurst!!!:mad:

Actually caught some of the Tech at Findlay game on their radio, and did have a thought to stopping there to watch the 4th quarter.

If I'm Tech, I would be **** worried about walking into a **** hornets nest next week. There was a lot of grumblings on the sidelines today about this, and there's a lot of GVSU alumni already calling for Matt Mitchell's head. Mind you Mitchell is our athletic director's son in law. With as tough as a schedule coming up for GVSU, Tech, Ferris, NMU, they're going to need wins, and another poor showing against Tech is just going to rile the mob up more for Mitchell's head. Simply put, I kind of think its a Must Win type of game for GVSU.

Yep, that's what I think too. I don't really fear it though, because Tech is not a football powerhouse. I know that, save for Scarlett, our offense is inexperienced this year. In the last decade or so, our MO is that we're a solid team that usually has a winning record and typically beats Northern. That's pretty much all I care about. I have to say, I'm a little worried about the NMU game for the first time since I started paying attention my sophomore year ('06), however it's a home game this year, so I d@mn well expect a Miner's Cup win. :)

Well, that's because Grand Valley is that powerhouse, and well, 8-3 season's just don't excite us. Just read thru D2F there and the rabble there is pretty much ready to go Lane Kiffin can the man on Mitchell right now. I'm pretty close to it myself, would take another embarrassment loss where the team gave up like what they did yesterday to push me over to that side of the fence.

Re: 2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!

Sorry to see UMD lose a tough one to Mankato a week ago, but the Dogs still look pretty good this season.

Good defense won us that game.:)

It was a great game between two great teams in front of a very good crowd (for UMD) of 5700+. Mankato deserved to win, because they played a more disciplined game, but I think it says a lot about how could this UMD team could be by the end of the year that their turnover margin was -3 against a team as good as Mankato and they still had the probably game-winning touchdown in their mitts. It's unfortunate that we held, but most neutral observers say it was both a legit call and one that didn't affect the outcome of the play.

Huge game again vs. St. Cloud this week. It's likely that if we win this week, we'll win out and make the playoffs. A loss is huge trouble.
