2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!

I was expecting a sixtyburger to be honest.

Well, with as much chatter we've had all week about how the sky is falling since getting embarrassed in columbus, we would have been happy to get a decent win. GVSU went out and other than a little yip on the first offensive series, they didn't mess up any. They avoided having a quarter where they sleepwalked thru it. Honestly, I think they might have figured out how to play Laker football once again, but it's going to take a couple of games to see if it's really set in with them.

Mavericks left a lot of points on the field this weekend..Game wasn't really ever in doubt, and the defense continues to make opportunistic takeaways, but it would be nice to absolutely bury teams when we can.

You're starting to sound like a GVSU fan. ;)

If we can keep Keen around, ten years from now I might be able to:p
Doubt it would happen. There's always going to be a bigger school out there that can afford to pay a coach more when it comes to D2. Hell, Ten years ago Brian Kelly was at GVSU until CMU, pulled him away from us. Now, after a successful stop in Mount Pleasant and Cincinnati, he's got himself a gig at Norte Dame. The real trick is letting him build up his staff enough that you'll have enough coaching talent left over when the HC leaves that there's not going to be much of a drop off when a good HC leaves.

I agree, but I think that's already happening. While we were dealing with that whole debacle last year, Keen and the other coaches kept this train rolling and had a terrific season. They kept virtually the entire staff entact this year and boom, off to a great stat again. Even if they keep Keen around a few more years, I think this will continue to be a premiere D2 program.

Minnesota State athletics as a whole have become extremely successful in virtually every sport. It's fun to watch, really.

Yeah, you guys have been pushing us a lot in the directors' cup standings a lot.

I'm seem to recall that Kelly's stint in Mount Pleasant isn't looked upon all that fondly by Chips fans. After two mediocre years, he immediately bolted for greener pastures in Cincy after an 8-4 regular season and fourth-tier bowl victory. They were pretty raw about that.

Chip fans should have been happy with mediocre at that time. CMU was well below .500 the five seasons before Kelly got there and he got em the MAC championship in 3 seasons. That's coaching the kids up, because a lot of his guys that he recruited were still in development. . Did they have a right to be a little upset with him leaving before the bowl game, but that's the nature of the beast truthfully. Unless the NCAA wants to set something up to where a school can't hire a new coach until oh say New years Day, then you're always going to see coaches jumping ship early.

And that right there was another nail in the coffin to that Matt Mitchell Era at GVSU. 54-44 loss at Big Rapids.

Now if you gentlemen excuse me, I'm off to go collect me a bag full of kittens and some gas!

LOL

Tech retains the Miner's Cup for a fourth straight year, beating eNeMaU 31-7. :)

#1 for the first time in school history. Via twitter, the coaching staff acknowledges the accomplishment, but understands this means absolutely nothing. "Rings aren't won in October."

Re: 2012 D2 Football thread: Every day I'm shuffling!!!

Yep, that time of the year everybody. Football season!!

Anyways, seems the NCAA saw fit to shuffle the regions around again this year. Super Region 1 and 2 are pretty much the same. The big shuffle comes from out in the west, where we have the GLVC being a full fledged conference this year, and them along with the GLIAC and RMAC will be called Region 4 this year, instead of being region 3 like they were last year. Also, the only real conference that really moved here is the LSC. That of course means that they bumped the NSIC over to the super region that will be known as super region 3 this year. So, in conclusion, that would mean that the super regions look like this way this year.

SR1: CIAA, NE-10, PSAC, WVIAC
SR2: GSC, SAC, SIAC
SR3: GAC, GNAC, MIAA, NSIC.
SR4: GLIAC, GLVC, LSC, RMAC.

Yes, that still leaves SR2 with having a lot less teams in it that the other 3 super regions. and things are going to change again next year as a bunch of the WVIAC schools are breaking off to form their own conference as well, along with picking up some Ohio schools as well. So, expect another shuffle there and ideally, the CIAA heads to SR2.

Every body got that now??

Vigilant in order to battle in the end.

Cold, wet, rainy, sleet, hail, and wind here in allendale. GVSU leads NMU 27-10 at the half, and the NMU band is here as well. Today would have been a good day to be up at the dome.
