2012 D1 BCS thread

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

This Michigan-MSU game is embarrassing for both teams, and a prime example of why the B1G has effectively become a mid-major conference. Neither can put a drive together to save themselves.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

The whole B1G is brooootal this year.

Braxton Miller in the process of being released from the hospital.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Maryland burns a redshirt on a freshman QB who leads them 70 yards in 25 seconds to set up a 33 yard GW field goal, and the kicker clanks it off the left post after having it centered.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Duke is bowl eligible after beating North Carolina 33-30. First time since 1994.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Nebraska pulling one out of their *** sets up a big game in the Legends division next week (if that's even possible). Winner has inside track to Big Ten title game. Hey, for as bad as the Big Ten has been, at least Michigan has only lost to undefeated Alabama and Notre Dame.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

I saw the hit. My initial guess was that it's either it's a severe concussion, or broken ribs.
I'm not sure what it looked like on TV, but live it looked like the left shoulder and/or collarbone took the worst of it. There was hard contact with the turf; even worse was the fact Braxton went down so awkwardly. As in hockey, those awkward falls can be a significant source of injuries.

Based on how they are treating it, I'm more concerned about fractured vertebrae, a la Merril. They are being very careful for something like ribs.
Indeed. The reaction of the training staff was instantaneous. Immediately they were rushing to the scene. Granted, part of the reason for the haste was that a star player was involved. But I've got to believe that it looked even worse up close than it did from the stands.

From TV and Radio reports, It's my understanding that Braxton has been released from the hospital, and the "head, neck and shoulder" areas were carefully checked and declared "symptom free." If that's really true, and there's no need for time off due to injury, I must say that I'm relieved, pleased and amazed.

OK OK, settle down now. It might be nice and all, but there are better atmospheres than Kinnick.

Obviously I'm a bit biased..it is a special atmosphere at night.

...and was for about a quarter last night. What an embarrassment. To PSU's credit, they play hard, and they're pretty good. BOB is a great coach.

It sounds like Nelson played pretty well. Had some good drives, made a few mistakes and some of his wideouts dropped a few balls. Sounds like he was pretty good though and showed some good skills and speed.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

You have nothing to apologize for. The Hawkeye fanbase does a very solid job, both at home and on the road. Kind of confused as to why someone would rain on your parade. If I was going to target a fanbase for not supporting its team, it certainly wouldn't be Iowa.

And yes, the fun goes to the next level when the game is under the lights -- regardless of site. It didn't work out for you guys last night, but that doesn't mean that the anticipation was out of line.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Pgb, I'm not sure what post you read but all I said was the atmosphere at kinnick can be beat. Never said it wasn't great and didn't say anything negative about the iowa fanbase.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Well, maybe in reading between the lines, I found a little more than was actually there.:o At the same time, being told to "settle down" isn't generally received as positive feedback. ;)

It's certainly not a big deal, but there was no need for MH14 to settle down. In BT Football, we generally get one home night game per season. As such, they are special occasions. Could very well be that night games in other leagues are more routine, and therefore don't generate the same level of excitement...

I agree with your last statement most. Night games are becoming much more of the norm as college football moves to prime time. It hasn't been the case much with the Big Ten. Also, I wouldn't want to watch a game anywhere but Kinnick. Especially at night. So to me, that atmosphere can't be beat. I understand we may not have over 100,000 people there, but I do think we pack the house with 70,585 fantastic fans. And, as pgb stated, we travel exceptionally well.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

If you read it again and put it in context, the settle down was directly related to saying the atmosphere at Kinnick was unbeatable. That's all. It was really a simple, innocuous point. I certainly don't begrudge him for being excited about the game.

No worries, sir. I wasn't worried about it.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Has anyone lost their jobs yet?

If not, the first happened yesterday- Rob Akey from Idaho was "relieved of his duties" which is an interesting way of putting it. After another embarassing lobsided loss, and a 20-50 record, even a bowl win wasn't going to save his job. OC Jason Gesser is the interim, which is also interesting since the DC (who should be fired, too) is far more senior- this is Gessers highest position, and was hired this year.

Alas, my first alma mater is, well, really bad.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Former Washington State QB? Akey got off to a pretty darn good start at Idaho but the last few years have gone south.

Yup. He joined the staff a year ago, and was promoted to OC this season. Very little experience, but who knows.

Akey is an interesting guy- and I think he's still a great coach- could be a great position person, or even a co-ordinator. But as head guy- he was not a great leader, just from observing him and the team. To much a rah, rah guy, trying to be the divorced dad as best friend as opposed to being the boss man. We went to the BGSU game this year, and saw him celebrate with the individual players when they scored the first touchdown of the season. As opposed to making sure the players knew that scoring was what they were SUPPOSED to do.

The team has talent, that you can see- getting lit up for 70 is more the coach than the players this time.

Yeah, but still with all that Idaho is facing, a move down to the Big Sky would be a better long term move for their football program, other than it pretty much means they're surrendering and giving up all of Idaho to Boise State.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Florida has two first downs and 29 total yards of offense.

They lead South Carolina 21-6.
Such is the SEC. It's amazing how defense focused the conference has become, given all the offensive weapons you used to see teams in the SEC having.
