Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

1. Was K-State in the Cotton Bowl last year? Either way, someone needs to remind Grandpa Bill Snyder that he's wearing the jacket that has the Cotton Bowl logo on the back of it.

2. Kirk Herbstreit just said "chinese fire drill" on the air. He'll be hearing about that one.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Apparently some in the announced crowd of 514 rushed the field.
Yikes, only thing worse than that would be Tiffin. Two years ago went to a game there, and I believe somebody went thru and counted everybody in the stands that game. Counting Tiffin's band, they came up with 433, and most of that was on the away side for GVSU. And I thought GVSU had a poor turnout for that matchup.

Granted, its against Syracuse, but the Gophers don't look terrible.
Strangely, no one in the polls is fooled. Minnesota, despite a 4-0 record is not ranked #1. in fact they aren't even "receiving votes" yet.

Iowa, Northwestern, Purdue are their next 3 games. All of them actually seem winnable. Which means they will drop all 3. :( :D

We did receive votes in the coaches poll

Either way, I am quite confident that Notre Dame and Michigan are going to drop each other when the current contract expires.

To follow up on this discussion from a few weeks ago, AP Detroit sports editor Larry Lage is reporting that Notre Dame has cancelled the 3 final games in their series against Michigan (2 at Michigan, 1 at Notre Dame), meaning the series will end after the 2014 game. This is a little surprising in that I expected that the contract would be played to its completion, but not at all surprising in that this needed to happen as soon as possible given Notre Dame's new scheduling commitments.

Notre Dame has committed to play 8 teams (5 ACC teams plus Navy, USC and Stanford) every year, with 4 at home and 4 on the road. This means that if Notre Dame wants to continue playing 7 home games a year, they need 3 of the remaining 4 games to be at home. The result is ND dropping at least one and more likely 2 or even all 3 of their long-term series against Big Ten teams. The Purdue series is only signed through 2014, and Purdue will probably no longer be a yearly feature on the Notre Dame schedule after that.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

So, here's what's going to happen. Rutgers is going to run their record to 9-0 against a crappy schedule (though people will point to the win at Arkansas as a big win when in fact it's just that Arkansas isn't very good right now), maybe make their way all the way into the top 10 in the polls once other teams start dropping a game or two here and there (which will inevitably happen once the SEC and Big 12 and Pac-however-many-they-are-now start playing their conference schedules instead of their season-opening patsies), but will not be ranked nearly as high in the BCS because objective rankings will recognize how crappy their schedule is. Then they'll get stomped at Cincy and Pitt and at home vs. Louisville to end their season and everyone will say "what happened?" when nothing happened except an extremely back-loaded schedule. Then they'll win their bowl game because that's what they somehow keep doing, maybe because their opponents underestimate them because, I mean, it's Rutgers.

Personally, as long as they beat UConn and Syracuse, I'll call it a good season.
