2012 D1 BCS thread

Michigan left the Big Ten because they were kicked out for failing to follow league rules. Now, they were stupid rules (5 football games a year, athletes could only play 3 years) but they didn't leave all on their own. I wouldn't expect a school tour to give out that type of info about their own school, though.

Hey, I'd appreciate it if you could let Dantonio know that he should at two halves like the first half against Indiana this week. I'd greatly appreciate it.;)

I've given up predicting games. The offense showed promise against CMU and then didn't do anything for three games. The defense was strong the entire season until we reach the worst team in the Big Ten. We could win this in a blowout, win it in a close one, or lose it in a close one. The only thing I'm certain won't happen is a blowout loss... Unless we play two halves like we did against IU. I'm very rarely a "one game at a time" guy, because normally you can make Indiana a win, but after struggling against EMU and IU this is truly a week-by-week team.

No, that was mentioned. They also wanted just conference games, so Michigan could not play OSU, nor Harvard, Yale or other east coast schools. Kicked out or just ignored dumb rules? Who can tell. Once OSU joined the B10, it was just a matter of time until Michigan would come back.

I'd predict a low scoring offensive struggle.. 17-14, 21-17 type game... Weisman is a fun back to watch and I think our offensive line is our best unit.. We have yet to be tested like we will Saturday though. I'm happy we're coming off a bye though and hope the subpar pass defense that was shown last week shows up again this week in sparty land.

You should try to see if you can take a historical tour of the horseshoe.
Not a bad idea at all. I'm not sure that's offered. But if it isn't, it should be.

I will say the stadium used to be much more accessible than it currently is. Pre-Renovation, there used to be dorm rooms in the stadium structure. (highly coveted) Pre-September 11, you oftentimes could run on the track, sit and study in the stands, etc. Of course that's all ancient history (20th Century!) now. :o Given the current lack of access, guided tours would seem like a reasonable remedy.

We recently did one at the Big House, and it was pretty fascinating- especially the history before it was built. The "Champions of the West" came from that time, and one of the reasons UM left the Big10 was OSU (along with many of the eastern schools that they had history with). Really cool info. Had no idea that there was so much tie in. (UM is the only school to leave and come back to the B10)
Didn't know that piece of history. Good stuff.

Just as interesting- how the stadiums around the country influenced the Big House. And how that changed college football quite a bit. (and I'm sure I mentioned that the old Ferry Field location is still used, and has a dedication to a very big day for a famous OSU student)
Yup. Jesse Owens is one athlete we should all be able to agree on.

Duke is up 20-7 on Virginia Tech in their quest to move to 6-1 and be bowl eligible for the first time since 1994.

Goddamm Mayans.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Holy **** the Gophers suck. Can't contain a three-man rush. Pathetic. So much for the boost of confidence starting 4-0. Winless in the Big Ten. Write it down.

Four hours. Four hours in the pouring rain and 40 degrees. And I get treated to that. I have no words for this offense. Defense showed up once again. 13 points in regulation should be enough to win.

No offense to you personally, but I absolutely hate Dantonio and Michigan State and that win today was so gratifying. Old time defensive football. So proud of the defense. They've been the ones everyone was thinking would be a struggle this year but they are playing so hard and doing it well. This is a fun, take it one game at a time football team that is gonna be fun to follow to the finish.

Beat Michigan and Nebraska please. Thanks.;)

Geno Smith is receiving the curse half of winning the September Heisman Trophy, which is your team having the tar kicked out of them in October.
