2012-2013 North Dakota Hockey: Season Thread

Re: 2012-2013 North Dakota Hockey: Season Thread

Just don't judge all of Minnesota by what you'll be seeing on this trip!
This is very true. If you drive across southern Minnesota on Interstate 90 you'll think you're in Iowa or Nebraska. Nothing but flat cornfields as far as the eye can see.

So, it appears that Carter Rowney will be ready to go up in Alaska this weekend, but Michael Parks is probably out a few weeks according to Hakstol. That will make our lineup pretty interesting this weekend.
Very curious to see what the lines are going to look like each night. I think Cagguila has a big weekend. Just a hunch.

That would be key. I think Rocco is going to have to have a big weekend if we want two victories, but he'll definitely need all the help he can get. I'd also like to see our blueliners step up offensively.

With only 15 skaters, North Dakota completely dominated UAA with a 5-0 win to start the season...not too bad. Considering that our forwards for this game had combined for a total of 22 career goals, I was very pleased with scoring 5 goals. I can only imagine what this team should do next weekend with an almost full squad.

Now, hopefully the boys come out strong tomorrow night and get the sweep.

Gotta wonder when Saunders had his last shutout playing for Huntsville let alone only having to make 21 saves in an entire game. He has got to be in seventh heaven.

I guess the Sioux are better off without their captains on the ice. ***. Sure it's early but when you dominate without your veterans on the ice the night before and lay an egg the next night with them on the ice it just makes you scratch your head. But playing with 16 players in a focked up time zone and it being only the 2nd game of the season I can see this happening a bit. I really expect this comiong weekend when AA comes to the Ralph with basically a full squad, for the Sioux to run the seapups right out of the building.

I thought they were thoroughly outhustled last night. Alaska won the puck battles.

Though it was hard to tell with that video feed.

Completely agreed. Alaska wanted to win, and it showed on the ice. It seemed that nearly every puck battle was won by Alaska, and the Nanooks took away what we wanted to do offensively. I'm interested to see how this group responds next weekend.

Home Of The Fighting Sioux coming down off the Ralph. Sad to see.

Saturday's outcome should not have been unexpected. UND was still shorthanded, missing I think 4 forwards, including two from the top two lines. They went with three lines Friday, which has to take a toll on Saturday. And they were playing against a better team than UAA.

One of the biggest adjustments players have to make coming into college hockey is the difficulty of being ready to play that second night. The Saturday games are always harder to win than Fridays, especially if you aren't ready to turn up your effort. All freshmen hockey players have to adjust to that. UND's weren't ready for it, and it cost them a game. A good learning experience.

And hopefully it was also a good learning experience for the players who were forced to sit out.

Very good point. With a full squad minus Parks for their home opener I'm looking forward to 2 dominating games by the Sioux from the comforts of my leather seat at the Ralph.
