Further notes:

* 7 year limit on contracts, 8 years if you re-sign

* Variance: lowest paid year can not lower than 50% of highest paid year

Still waiting to hear on buyouts...
2 buyouts in 13-14. The cap for 12-13 is $70 million floor is $44 million, eliminating the need for buyouts this season. Cap is $63.4(2?) in 13-14 with a $44M floor.

I'm disappointed with no Olympic decision yet. The US has a good shot at gold if they bring the NHL guys.

I'm pretty sure that NHLers will be allowed to play in the olympics. I saw a few tweets about it earlier, but now I'm having trouble finding them...

You can bet your bottom dollar that NBC has told the NHL that the NHL players will appear at the Olympics.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I'm just going to straight copy/paste what I put on facebook:

As a hockey fan, I'm very sad that the lockout is over. I'm sad that in less than two weeks, the NHL will be back in business and the stands will be full.

I'm sad because it means that as fans, we've become enablers. We're enabling the owners to sign players to million dollar contracts and then cry poor (Hi, Leipold!). We're enabling the owners to make a stand not because they have a reason, but just because they can (Hi, Jacobs!) We're enabling the owners and players to continue to have a work stoppage every seven or ten years and expect the fans to come back at full force.

Support hockey. There are 59 teams that play men's Division I hockey. There are 61 schools that support either men's or women's Division I teams and even more that play at the Division II or III level. The US just won the World Junior Championships. Support the teams they play on and for. Support the AHL and the ECHL. Support the juniors teams that play in your area. Support the businesses, bars, and restaurants that were hurt by the lockout.

Just don't support the league that continues to think only about the money that goes in their pockets and not the fans that bring it in.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I haven't missed the NHL in the least. Between working ACHA D-1 club games and D-III women's varsity games, and attending Division III men's varsity games, I've had my hockey fix since early September, and I've seen more hockey than I have in any of the past 5 years.

I've also noticed that with a small school, you get much closer to the program, the players, coaches and parents than you ever would anywhere else. It gives you a much, much different perspective on the collegiate game itself.

Even at D1 level, indeed. I have never had a word with tDon, but have had convos with Jamie Russell/Mel Pearson (MTU) without even trying.

Parents are open and informative everywhere (even at the larger programs) provided that they don't think you are out for something or want to take advantage of the players.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I'd say that my love for hockey has grown over the lockout. I've been following NCAA and CHL much more and even been working on my own game  I will definitely be tuning in to see Pat Kane's new sick shootout move and how Nash is doing in NY but as for going to games and such, that ship has sailed.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I'm not going to spend one dime on the NHL this year nor am I going to watch one minute of it on tv.

If the Wild want to win the Stanley Cup in this shortened season I will be on board.
