2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Had a debate with a friend. At this point, would you rather see the whole season cancelled, or would you like to see a, say, 40 game slate.

I honestly don't really miss it, but maybe they could salvage some fan support having a partial season. If they nix everything, cricket will be more popular. For the next 5 years.

Honestly, at this point I'd just as soon kill the whole season.

The season's integrity has already been compromised. This was supposed to be such a massive season. Coming off record revenues in 2011, having extra momentum after the NBA and the NFL ref lockouts, large nontraditional market team defending the Cup, bigger than normal Winter Classic, etc. A partial season cobbled together with whoever hasn't bolted for another continent just wouldn't do justice to what could have been. It'd be like being ready to dig into a fresh family size Papa Murphy's pizza with everything and settling for a Tombstone. Playing a season now would be a step backward instead of forward.

Put it this way: I'd trade what's left of the season for a 10-year deal as opposed to playing now with a 5-year deal.

Watching MIRACLE, I just had a thought occur to me: If we lose the season (about 8 out of 10 likelyhood, IMO), how do the Olympics play into next season? The 2 1/2 week break in February seems like quite the problem to work around, since many players seem to want it, but owners are against it...

Really getting pushed to the edge of my fandom here

For most of the Euro players, the priority is (1) Olympic Gold (2) World Championship Gold (3) Stanley Cup. I agree that the players want to play in Sochi, but Gary the Short does not.

I've been wondering for a few months if the Olympics is one of the dealbreakers right now.

I think that even the North American guys learned how much of an impact Olympic success can have on their lives.

Looking for a Christmas gift for the hockey fan?

The Ice-O-Topes claim to be the original hockey pin-up calendar gals.

For the last three years, the Vancouver-based women's ice hockey team has been raising money for both their practice time and local charities by way of a very popular annual calendar, featuring the members of the team wearing little in the way of equipment. Here's a gallery of last year's photos.

But after three years of standard pin-up shots, the Ice-O-Topes opted for a new challenge: recreating hockey's classic images.

BOBBY ORR! :D

BTW: Between the lockout, and Edmonton having to face a classic "hey, I love this team and all that, and I know I'm insanely wealthy, but you locals are going to have to pay for this new arena or I'm ****ing moving this team" scenario, I've just about lost any goodwill I've ever had for professional sports.

I will only support public funding for stadiums in the future if they include an anti-lockout poison pill: 2 to 4 million per regular season game canceled (and not made up) as the result of a lockout.
