Looks like the lockout is a go if nothing is agreed to. Gary Bettman you suck and for that...

This is too brilliant NOT to share:

Lauren Potempa ‏@NHLObsessed
@JoeYerdonPHT New idea to get a new CBA deal done: lock both sides in a room and show 24 hour marathon of Sarah Mclachlan SPCA ads.

Lockout has started. And upon quick glance, all players have been removed from the NHL website.

If this happens to drag on for longer than one season, could the owners decide to use PHPA players as scab players?

Or would the giant inflatable rat outside each arena with NHLPA players be enough to not make that happen?

Sucks but it doesn't really "matter" until regular season games are lost.
Hopefully they can get something done but I'd bet we don't see hockey till December at least.

You can't use replacement players during a lockout. The owners caused the work stoppage.

If the NHLPA went on strike, then the owners would be within their rights to use RP's.

If the season doesn't start on time, I'm guessing we'll see something similar to what the NBA did. They'll start the season with the Winter Classic and play a 50-60 game schedule. That would be much better publicity wise than starting randomly in October or November.

I'm thinking the first NBC game is around Thanksgiving. That's my guess. Then it's the Winter Classic.

So who has the gun pointed at them? The owners or the players?

The players, because the owners have the money.

The owners will always win. Even if they are losing money, they use that as a tax write-off. Either way, follow the dollar, and you have your answer to anything in any economical situation.

Series of tweets that just posted:

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha
Anonymous NHL GM when asked what leverage players may have: “None. We took away all of their leverage (1/2)

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha
by canceling the playoffs in 2005. And, we’ll do it again, if we have to.” (2/2)

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha
This anonymous GM cares nothing about his own staff, his scouts, his office workers, the arena workers, and their families. This is (1/2)

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha
all about greed and crushing the players. These quotes are truly unbelievable. (2/2)

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha
Compare it with the NHL's insulting message posted on their website tdy that the lockout is all about getting a better system for the fans!

Edit: Here is the article the Allan Walsh was quoting --> http://www.bergerbytes.ca/2012/09/nhl-players-undermining-their-cause/

Yeah I think owners will lose leverage as time goes on as long as the players aren't stupid.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Fehr says if the next NHL offer isn't better than what he's seen, he's going "pull the cap off the table."

I suppose the owner reaction to that would be to eliminate guaranteed contracts, then we can all throw our toys out of the pram like toddlers.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

There are times when I just can't believe how stupid everyone involved can be. Desperate people in 4th place can't expect to just give up and somehow come out on the other side better off than they were. It's like if NBC just went off the air for a few months, and then expected to get better ratings when they came back on.

A Simpsons reference for the lockout.

Come gather round children
It's high time ye learned
About a hero named Homer
and a Devil named Bettman.
We'll march til we drop
the Crosbys and the fellas
We'll fight to the death
Or else fold like umbrellas
So we'll march day and night
By the big Manhattan tower
They have the rinks,
but we have the power.

I seriously hope the NHLPA has a dental plan...
