Parade Route

Im getting in to Boston at 830am. I'll probably jump on the green line or just walk to Park St/Boston Common and try to get a place close to the front there.

Look for me, I'll have my black and gold B's shirt with the #30 Thomas on the back.

Forgot to mention that CBC did a rundown of each Bruin's favorite player growing up. Most were logical choices, but then came an obvious joke. Not sure how Rask kept a straight face, but he said Bob Essensa. Now, I know this to be a joke for a few reasons:

1. Rask is from Finland
2. Essensa was nothing special
3. Essensa is the Bruins goaltending coach ;)

Disturbing video (especially after the 3:06 mark) and some NSFW language.

Unreal. I hope that after the police run the facial recognition and start to identify all the morons so they will be held accountable for their sub-human behavior, they take a few minutes to try to find the few brave people who literally risked their lives to do the right thing in standing up to the mob.

Great - that should make it easy. You should be able to spot me, too. I'll be wearing the official Stanley Cup Champions tshirt and hat!

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Looking at the NHL's store versus the USCHO store... is it just me or are different bruins champions merch available on each site?
There are different championship gear available on each site. When UMD won, the UMD Stores had their gear, USCHO and other websites had different gear. I chose the clothing that I liked best between them.

Curious what neutral outside observers thought of this series. I thought it was fascinating watching the animosity/hate develop so early in the series. I suppose the big negative was how Vancouver folded in each of their losses...

You stay classy Vancouver....

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

From what I read today a lot of Vancouverins are volunteering to clean up the riot mess, they have an "apology wall", and they're thanking their police force for what they did. It's too bad there are so many idiots in the world that have to ruin it for everyone else.

For Boston, it's all about Thomas. Even in their losses, he played well and was an incredibly easy MVP pick.

For Vancouver, I'd say it's mostly about the disappearance of their offense. Luongo will take heat for his bad/mediocre performances, but the reason for them losing the series can't fall squarely on him. He received very little offensive support.

Even after game five, I thought Boston would take the series - they were so much better than Vancouver on home ice, and they were awfully close to winning their games in Vancouver. Plus if anyone was going to crack under game seven pressure in the nets, it'd be Luongo.

I agree with all of that, it is how exactly i felt heading into the game. But, the importance of that first goal cannot be understated...I didn't think the Bruins were dominating and was concerned that one Canuck goal could tip the emotional balance drastically. The Canucks' plan was likely to ride the home ice advantage and hope it offset the depleted D. They get the first goal and the crowd goes crazy and maybe it is Boston's legs that seem to get heavy. As it played out, Boston got stronger as the game wore on...one crazy bounce or deflection and it is possible they are rioting in Vancouver because the won.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

I actually thought that Luongo had pulled it together in Game 5 and Vancouver would win a close, trap-happy Game 6. However, the Cup was anyone's to take once Luongo fudged away their shot to win it in Boston. You had to figure that the first team to score in Game 7 would win, and the Canucks ultimately just didn't have a match for Thomas's determination.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

NHL Network is showing every Bruins playoff game. We are on Game 2 vs. Montreal right now, and something that seemed to a theme for Boston in the first few rounds. Allowing the other team to score in the first minute. It happened ALL the time with Tampa, and Montreal.

Is it bad that I still get angry when Montreal scores? Even though I know Boston goes on to win it all?

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Vancouver fans will rage at Luongo, but their #1 offense/#1 Power play/Likely back-to-back Hart Trophy winners/Probable Selke winner and company scored 8 total goals and gave up more SHG than they scored PPG. Strictly speaking, their quality of play should have had them out in 4 or 5 without Luongo dragging the series out by himself.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

The Stanley Cup of Chowder had a great blog post today about the series, but this paragraph summed it up best:

In retrospect, the moment we should have known the series was over was when Brad Marchand was slapping Daniel Sedin around and nothing happened. Was it a dick move by Marchand? Of course it was. It was surprising enough that Sedin stood there and took it, but what was truly amazing was that no one on Vancouver did anything about it. Imagine the roles were reversed, imagine Maxim Lapierre was slapping David Krejci around. How long would it take before Lapierre was thrown on his *** by someone in a black and gold jersey? If it was more than 2 seconds, I'd be stunned.

Interestingly, it looks like that did clear the crowd out of there, so...umm...that guy's plan worked.
