2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

It boggles my mind how unable the Wings are to get a break against this team. As was said on the FSN telecast, all seven of San Jose's playoff wins over Detroit in the last two years have been in one-goal games.

They have to create their breaks. They haven't been doing that.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

I know it's wrong, but I can picture my college ex crying because her Wings lost and I smile a little. :D

...and the Howard haters are already out in force.

Wha?!? It's not his fault. He's kept the Wings in games they had no business being in. The Wings need to quit playing how the Sharks play, and play like the Wigs used to. This isn't the same team that swept the Yotes.

You can't rationalize with people who always blame goaltending, so I don't even try.

And in all fairness, the Coyotes barely showed up to that series.

Yeah, but the Wings did. Lots of setting up, calm plays, crashing the net... Everything they're not doing now. I know the Sharks are playing better D, but the calm swagger of the Wings have been lacking this series.

And yeah, I'm afraid to go on LGW.com and see the rage.

I'm sure the entire board is having an epilepsy, not only over the hatty, but the fact that Seto scored it. I was referring to some of my Facebook friends regarding Howard.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

Howard hasn't lost this series for Detroit. The rest of his team forgot there was another round after the first one. I bet you they are wishing the Hawks beat Vancouver.

Because Western Canadians don't do crap like that? ;)

Edit: Detroit needs to cut bait on Ericsson and give Kindl or someone else a shot. Last year, he was the d-man that pinched in on the net on Jason Williams' way wide shot that turned into the 2 on 1 Thornton to Marleau OT winner and this year's he's a -2 and gets embarrassed by an exhausted Thornton to setup Seto's goal.

If Ericsson is a Wing after this summer, I'll eat my jersey. He's about what you could expect from a former 9th round pick...which is that he's clearly a 9th round pick.

It's time for a new defensive mind as well - I would fire Brad McCrimmon and get a new assistant, before he has a chance to wreck Brendan Smith (even though Smith won't be in Detroit for at least another year, maybe even two).

Something else I've noticed. Since when is Lidstrom not on the PK? Not that I'm complaining, but he played 1 more minute than Rafalski and Ericsson, 2 more than Salei. It's a practical elimination game and your $6.2 million Norris finalist is playing similar minutes to Ruslan Salei?

Stolen:

Did you hear about the new drink named the Ovechekin? It's a white Russian without a Cup.

Apparently ever since Babcock decided to limit/practically eliminate his minutes on the PK at the start of the Phoenix series. I thought it was just a first round thing to conserve his energy since the Wings were rolling anyway, and that his PK time would increase in this series. I'm starting to suspect he might be injured, and they are keeping it under wraps (pun not intended).

At any rate, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he plays his last NHL game on Friday night :(. If Lids retires, Ericsson is pushed into the next cab to DTW, and Salei isn't re-signed, our defense could look quite a bit different next year.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

Couple of thoughts on last nights B’s game. Another good dominating performance. Everyone looks sharp. Forchecking, defensive play, hitting , goaltending. They are up 3-0 in this series, but it doesn’t feel like last year where they could have just as easily been down. Last night’s game wasn’t really close. Philly kepy trying to skate it up the center, and bostons D kept playing well. Sans the PP, the team looked like a very cohesive unit on both ends of the ice.

Not saying anything here. This series isn’t over, and again…everyone knows it. But boston is better this year. Much better. Its hard not to get a little excited.

As much as I enjoy not having to listen to the Bandwagon Fans, I kinda do wish they did. :(

While I really don't want to see it be Lid's last game... I'd be happy to see this scenario if it happened. I don't think the Griffins D is much of an upgrade (other than the dirty Badger), so it's most likely going to have to come from some trades or FA pickups.

Hmmm... wonder what it would take to get Toby Enstrom from the Thrash... :D

Philly has them right where they want them. :D

I was at last night's game and the atmosphere was impressive. I love how loud they crank up the goal horn and that they dim the lights before the Bs come out for every period.

There is no doubt Boston is a better team this year and Philly's goaltending is far worse.

That game was over in the first minute last night. I don't know how Philadelphia managed 38 shots and outshot the Bs. It seemed like Boston was in control the entire game and Thomas was rarely challenged. Most of the shots were from the outside with low grade scoring opportunities.

The B's defense is the most underrated aspect of the team. They really do a great job funnelling shots to the outside and allowing Thomas to see the puck to make easy saves and pad his numbers. Last night was a perfect example of why Thomas broke the save percentage record this year.

What's scary right now is Boston's top line is coming alive. They were basically non-existent in the Montreal series except for Horton's two clutch game winners.

Now, Boston has three lines that can hurt you on any shift. They are really molding into a very dangerous team right now.

Chris Kelly, Brad Marchand, and Rich Peverley are great pieces that weren't part of the puzzle last year and now are.

I'm about as far from a Boston fan as you can be, but this team is good and they are playing great hockey at the right time. They are legitimate threat to take the whole thing down right now if they keep this up and stay healthy.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs II: Welcome to Smashville

don't care how you cut it, I am dissapointed washington got swept. Awful play for 4 strait games. they looked good against new york too. Seems like they just gave up...

I think people overspeculated on how good Washington was in the first round.

The Rangers were not a good offensive team, which Tampa Bay is and Washington still just doesn't have the answer when it comes to the playoffs and playing good teams when it counts.

Even with NY not being that great of a team, the Rangers could have easily won Game 1 and Game 4. The only game Washington was dominant in was Game 5.

I think people got caught up with how good the Caps looked in Game 5 and forgot how offensively inept the Rangers were and bought into maybe this is Washington's season.

Tampa Bay got Roloson and they became a bonafide Cup contender and now look where they are.
