Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Quick question: I just ordered NHL Gamecenter Live for this season, so I can watch the Bruins on my PS3. But, after downloading the Gamecenter app from the PS3 store, all the games are from 2010-2011--i.e. no preseason games. Will this app be updated soon? Is it usually the case that you can watch preseason games on the PS3? Will the app update itself to show this season's game once the season starts?

I would imagine that you can watch the preseason games on your PS3 while they're happening (I've been watching them on my computer), but it doesn't look like they get saved to the NHL archive for later viewing the way regular season and playoff games are.

Brendan Smith's suspension doesn't do much other than send a message; he was headed back to GRR anyway. I guess he called the other Smith to apologize afterwards.

It means Janik is the guy getting the callup in case of injury, because Smith has to be on the NHL roster for those 5 games.

Then we got this last night, which will probably get MacArthur a couple days off and Abdelkader a bit of crap from his teammates from his flail after the hit to make sure the ref saw it.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

I know, but it's probably better for Smith to be playing 25 mins. a night in GRR anyway; should be his last year in the minors. He's progressing, but he's not quite ready, and it'll further humble his ego (which has come down a good notch already). Janik is serviceable enough as a 6th/7th.

Also - Eff Abdelkader, © MeanEgirl. :D :p

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

MacArthur gets the rest of the preseason, plus two regular season games. Shanny's explanation video will be up later, but I expect that Abdelkader's embellishment will be a small factor.

This is going to be a lot like the first year post-lockout when games had 12 penalties aside until the players learned to be more subtle with the hooking and holding.

Jim Hughson said tonight on HNIC that Shanny's team will be reviewing just about every hit. He could end up with more You Tube views than Justin Bieber.

Maybe that's the only way to drive up hockey ratings. :D

Great story about Bruins' scout Tommy McVie's day with the Stanley Cup, finally getting to touch it after 55 years in hockey.

He’s one of the funniest men in hockey, his stories legendary.

To give you an idea of former Jets coach Tom McVie’s sense of humour, here’s the message on his answering machine these days.

“I can’t take your call right now. The hockey season is over, and I landed an off-season job with Fran’s Bakery. They’ve got me on the fifth floor, with my bare a_$$ out the window, and I’m advertising twin loaves. Don’t you just love the Boston Bruins? Leave a number. I will call you.”

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Does Eric Nystrom get suspended for this play? And when will the NHL brass wake up and institute the no-touch icing rule?

Don Cherry's collar is that much tighter this weekend. He'll be in full rant mode on Thursday's HNIC regular season opener.

For what it's worth - Nystrom met with Fedun and expressed his remorse on Twitter.

Still sickened that he played a role in another hockey player shattering his leg during a race for an icing the night before, the Wild forward logged onto the Internet to find some followers of his Twitter account crucifying him.

''How does it feel being responsible for most likely ending a young player's career," one person asked @enystrom23.

''Are you serious? I am human and have a conscience. I feel so awful right now u don't even know," Nystrom replied.

Nystrom told another armchair basher, "I would switch places w taylor right now if I could."

HBO's ****ed. Ratings of 24/7 probably just got cut in half by waiving him.
