Simmonds is being accused of calling Avery a faggot or homo, saw reports saying both and now GLAAD is asking for him to apologize publicly and for the NHL to discipline him for use such a hateful word. Simmonds was the guy that had the banana thrown at him in that preseason game in canada...

I seem to remember a lesson I learned about two wrongs not making a right. I'm still mad that Simmonds got that banana chucked at him, however he knows better. Unfortunately, gay slurs are accepted in everyday culture. I know the board hates Avery and wants to throw Wayne a parade for calling him the 6 letter f-bomb, but it's still wrong.

Avery has actually been pretty stand up about the gay marriage law and that's going to make him a target.

No, being a ******bag is what makes Avery a target.

I'll give Avery a little credit though, he didn't bring this up, a reporter that saw the video did.

The point I was making is that people will actually look the other way or applaud Simmonds because he did it to Avery. Athletes and athletic culture in this country (and many other people) look at gay people in disgust. Sports won't be ready for an openly gay player for another 15-20 years because of our backwards attitude. If he called Sid, Ovie or any other player the magic word they'd be calling for Simmonds to get the book tossed at him.

(It's a touchy subject because one of my wife'e relatives recently came out and it took us by surprise.)

Yeah, because Avery is a ******, not because he's a gay marriage supporter.

I really doubt that about Sid, Ovie, etc. as well.

Edit: Rereading, I think I may have misinterpreted your point slightly.

If Avery calls Simmonds the N word, we aren't seeing him for a long time. Just a thought.

EDIT: I had a gay friend attempt suicide a few years ago because she came out and everyone turned their back on her. My wife went to a little school and because she wasn't a girly-girl she got tormented and called a lesbian until she was forced to leave school. I do get worked up about it because I know how destructive the word is.

Just a thought - Avery is only doing this for attention. He knows Simmonds will be branded if he accuses him of using any kind of slur. It's a troll move by Avery (and who among us would put that past him?).

I mistyped that. I forgot the s. Time for a new laptop I think. Still a shame that there's any type of slurring going on. Notice how quick the four-letter network is jumping all over the slur stories? :D
