2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

They just need to get healthy. We all know you can't win with AAA talent. Ask the Royals of a few years ago.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

Gardy's job is NOT in jeopardy, nor should it be. I will be furious if Gardy gets canned for one bad season after what he's done for this team. You say its like Lucia? Lucia has been bad for 3 seasons, Gardy's been there for about 1/4 of 1 season. Settle down, Gardy's not going anywhere.

Read my post, jack wagon. I said Gardy is ON WATCH as of RIGHT NOW, and has 2-3 years as of right now. Just like many have said about tDon 2-3 years ago. Gardy shouldn't be canned after one bad year. I agree.

They only have to play .543 baseball to finish 81-81. Or if you are drinking the kool-aid like biddy, they can finish 91-71 by playing .622 ball. :)

Hey, we can do it! Gardy has won the division 2/3 of his years as manager, and only made the ALCS once. Yes I understand that it's frustrating we can't win in the playoffs, but he gets us there. Ask the Royals how they'd feel about winning 6 titles in 9 years. I can kind of see Brent's point, due to lack of postseason success, but as stated numerous times, no chance he should be canned.

So you're telling me there's a chance

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

Mauer: hurt
Morneau: not back to form after concussion that cost him half a season
Nathan: not back to form after Tommy John surgery
Everybody else except Kubel: playing like pure unadulterated ****

I'd say that about sums it up.

Half the roster is callups right now. The Vikings weren't playing half the practice squad...

The pitching staff is not callups.
Even if the team had Thome, Young and the weenie Mauer, they still wouldn't be winning games when they allow as many runs as they do.
10 out of their last 11 losses, they've allowed 4 runs or more and in most of those 8 or more.
The Twins have the worst ERA in the league and the worst offense.
Not all can br blamed on injuries.
Some of the blame sure can fall on Bill Smith for who is on the roster, but I don't think Gardy can handle a staff well.
He leaves starters in too long and I've always hated the use the lefty for one batter and pull him crap.
At some point, it has to at least be thought that the guys may be tuning Gardy out.

But isn't "handling the staff" Anderson's job? I thought that is why you have a pitching coach.

Buck stops with Gardy.
If Anderson is making the pitching decisions, is Vavra making all the hitting decisions too?

Since when has pitching not been a problem though? Santana?

Re: 2011 Minnesota Twins: Yoshi, Pavario, and Big Jim's Quest for 600

A little perspective here, folks. Exactly 4 teams in the American League are 4 games over .500 or better.

I've seen the Twins rip off too many streaks in the 2nd half of seasons to believe that they're done.

How fine of a line is there between "pitching for contact" and "lobbing meatballs?"

Which is the only reason I still have hope.

I understand the pitching has been bad, but we're still losing ball games with good pitching performances as well. That's where hitters like Thome, Young, Mauer could be huge.

I assume nobody expected us to have an 17 game winning ace this year? We haven't had an ace since Santana.

Per MLB Radio, Harmon Killebrew has been moved into hospice care, as they have been unable to stop his esophegal cancer.
