2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

My memory is really getting bad if I can't remember Crowley winning the Hobey once, much less twice! I remember him as a great player, but not quite at that level.

Congrats Mike on the induction!

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Sweet we have six hobeys from five different players! Take that Duluth!

But they win every time the Gophers lose. If you listen to any member of tPB. Believe me, the obsession is at an all-time high now that tUMD are the defending champions. SRS Brenthoven is being SRS.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Holzinger ('95), Bonin ('96), and Morrison ('97) won the Hobey when Crowley played (all of them centers interestingly enough). Between 1984 (Kurvers) and 2000 (Mottau), no defenseman won it.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

I believe that Crowley had a good chance to win the HB if he would have stayed for his senior season. He would have shattered the point total record by a DMan at Minnesota and gone over 200 points in a career. He was at 157 points when he left and the record for MN was 158 (Travis Richards) .... But.... would it have been enough to beat Drury who did win in 1998? I just don't know.

Crowley was my all-time favorite player..... I was crushed when he left after his junior year.... I'm still bitter.

The goal posts have been painted and only 14 more days before the puck drops again at the Mooch!

Interesting...I never knew there was a comorbid and unipolar depressive pathology called, "Crowley Left Me"?:D

Jupiter, Cardinal, and Hammy do a great job. Will be a weekly thing I'll be looking forward to.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Lines and defensive pairings in practice per Hammy:

Helgeson - Holl
Schmidt - Alt
Marshall - Thompson
Student - Parenteau

Warning - Matson - Bjugstad
Rau - Budish - Hansen
Condon - Haula - Ambroz (I had to piece these guys together through the process of elimination from other lines)
Isackson - Sacchetti - Nick Larson
Jared Larson - Boyd - Joe Miller
Serratore (he was paired with two non-Goph players who were wearing half shields. Not sure who they were)

Condon/Haula/Ambroz are three nice pieces of the scoring puzzle for a few reasons. Pairing the Haula/Ambroz Omaha Lancer scoring chemistry together is a no brainer for me. Seth also has something to prove after his NHL draft stock dropped a tad so it should be interesting to see how he transitions from the USHL to D1. Adding Nate Condon makes this line potentially even more dangerous. Nate's got an endless motor with blinding acceleration and 75% of his Gs were logged against top 20 teams last year. That's second only to Haula, who although he got snagged in a mid-season scoring slump, ranked #1 in stepping up against top 20 teams with 83% of his Gs coming against ranked opponents.

Personally I'd prefer to see Warning and Matson change places with Rau and Budish. Budish and Bjugstad as two power forwards and Rau as a playmaker/natural goal scorer, with each one proven to be tough in the corners, would be an awesome power/scoring line. Lots of Gopher fans seem to think this is Bjugstad's year to step up. He showed some of his scoring ability towards the end of last season after the WJC, but overall he was basically neutralized against top 20 opponents with only 1/8 (12%) his goals coming against ranked opponents (DU). Hopefully this will a breakout year for Nick.

My main concern is the lack of star power patrolling the blue line this year. Mark Alt is my standout choice at D this year with the grit, vision and good puck movement to be a leader and an asset on PPs. Justin Holl has some of the same potential in my opinion. It should be interesting to see how much Mike Guentzel is able to develop this group into a solid D corp.

You guys look solid on paper again this year. I hope it translates to the ice and you can humble some arrogant fools. I expect to see the Gophers in quite a few high scoring games early in the year before they lock things down on the D. Sam Warning will be fun to watch. Amroz will be interesting as well. (I hope he trains his mom to stay quiet and out of the papers). Good luck this season.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Hey all,
My 'ol man is looking to get rid of 2 half sets of season tickets to the Mooch. I think the deal is the first night of every two game weekend.
Section: 11
Row:10
Seats: 10&11
Face Value

Lemme know if you're interested, or if he's out of his mind...

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

So Tony Lettieri's kid is headed to the Gophers with his nephew. Dang I am getting old. Go Kicks! llol

Psst - It's Tino, not Tony. Short for Martino. Two of Sweet Lou's grandkids on the same team will be fun.
