I didn't know the Mafia had season tickets?

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Not that I am going out on a limb but I heard from a great source John Hill has been let go as of last week.

Both Fiona and Hammy reporting that Hill's coaching tenure ended last Tuesday. The report is that Mike Guentzel is back as Asst. Coach of the Gophers!

Ho.Ly. ****.

Not surprised that Hill has been let go, but Guentzel getting rehired? Shocked.

Which isn't to say I don't like the hire. In fact, I love it.

I Guess this shows that the majority of the friction which lead to Guentzel leaving was caused by Hill and not Lucia.

Still a pretty interesting decision. I would have loved to listen in on that initial phone call Lucia placed to Guentzel.

It sounded to me like Lucia and Guentzel buried the hatchet a while back. It was always an issue with Hill. It's just that Lucia hitched his wagon to the wrong guy when it came down to deciding what to do.

I don't know Hill enough to say anything from my own experiences but everything I heard is that he wasn't well liked by a lot of people around there. Even worse, he has not been well liked in the hockey community around the state... and building good personal relationships with the local hockey coaches, etc is essential in recruiting.

I have always said I respect Lucia's loyalty to his friend. But I think it is fair to say he let his friendship get in the way of good judgment.

I think from an outsider it didn't make sense that Guentzel would be the one that left and Hill the one that stayed. I an sure what rational person would have thought that one out.

Guentzel leaving also had to do with Lucia not recruiting Mike's kids and Lucia recruiting Tony. Mike believed his kids are just as good as Tony. At least that is what I heard.

Easy to say when you're not the one making the decision.

While it may not be a cure-all, please let it be true. Please? Pretty please? Sugar on top?
